LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Congress has launched massive outreach program to win over dalit, OBCs and minorities to strengthen the vote bank of the party to face 2027 assembly polls in the state.

The  party  cadres  are  enthused  by the good performance of the  party in 2024 Lok Sabha polls when  the  Congress  won six seats   as   against  earlier  one and gained  in  vote percentage  Congress Party lost the  other  seats below the margin of 50,000 votes.

UP Congress has decided to enlarge the mission of Rahul Gandhi to win over OBCs, dalits and minorities to village level.

That is why UP Congress organised meeting of OBC cell, minority cell and fishermen Congress at Lucknow on quit India day August 9 to launch massive outreach program.

It was decided at the meeting to create awareness on the issues like caste based census, opposition to laws on WAQF properties, increase in the reservation quota beyond 50 percent.

UP Congress decided to launch program on August 9 and continue till September 11.  The program has been coincided with the 25th anniversary of the SC ST Atrocity Act of 1989 passed during the regime of PM Rajiv Gandhi.

Under the program, the party leaders will get in touch with various organisations to hold seminars, conferences and street meetings to sensitise the people from state capital to village level and spread the message of social justice, caste based census,  increase  in reservation beyond 50 percent  and  opposition to recent laws on Waqf properties. Congress leaders will also collect signatures for caste census.

Significantly, UP Congress also launched earlier programs to win over dalits from Bhagidari Diwas in July to reach out to dalits in the state..  The posters to win over Dalits carry pictures of BR Ambedkar and founder of BSP Kansiram.

Congress will also give important party position to those dalit leaders who had joined from the party BSP.

During last few months, there was massive erosion in BSP when senior leaders and party coordinators quit party to join Samajwadi Party and Congress.

As a part of Rahul Gandhi’s Mission 2027 for UP Assembly elections, the party is gearing up for massive over hauling when leaders from dalit, OBC and minority will be given key positions.

Congress is working not on only to retain old vote bank of brahmin, dalit and minorities but also to win over OBCs as well.

There is a realisation in Congress about the importance of fishermen community having presence in a large number of districts that is why a separate cell has been constituted to win over important section of society.

Congress is making serious attempt to give the impression to various sections of society that with Rahul Gandhi taking active interest in the state affairs, they would be getting proper share in ticket distribution. (IPA Service)

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BJP played aggressive Hindutva card by asking the shopowners of districts from where kanwariya yatra is taking place keeping by-elections for 10 assembly seats in the state in mind .

Although Supreme Court has stayed the order of Yogi Adityanath government asking the shopowners to display the name but BJP has already achieved the purpose for which this step was taken. The issue is being talked about in the state and other parts of country.

Irrespective of humiliating defeat in Ayodhya and neighbouring seats in Lok Sabha polls and loss in Badrinath seat in Uttarakhand in recently concluded by-election, BJP is adamant to play aggressive Hindutva card for forthcoming bypolls for assembly seats. BJP is not bothered by the open criticism by RLD president Jayant Choudhry and other alliance partners regarding government order asking the shopowners to write their names.

At a time when sharp differences in UP ministry and BJP surfaced recently when leaders, legislators openly blamed the apathy of the administration, chief minister Yogi Adityanath has taken the responsibility for the forthcoming by-polls.

Yogi convened the meeting of 16 senior ministers and entrusted them the task of mobilising the voters for party candidates and actively campaigning for them. The chief minister Yogi Adityanath asked the ministers to focus on the achievements of the government and ensure victory in all the 10 seats.

Similarly BJP UP president Bhupendra Choudhry and BJP general secretary organisation Dharampal also held meetings with senior leaders and appointed incharge of each constituency. There is a realisation in BJP that the outcome of these byelections will set the mood for the remaining period before the general elections for assembly in 2027.

After the results of Lok Sabha polls, BJP leadership also feel that it would be very difficult to face the opposition which is in very upbeat mood after the success of INDIA alliance in the state. The combination of Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi with the proper social engineering through PDA ( pichda, dalit and alpsangkhayak) is ready to face BJP .

It would be worth mentioning out of the ten assembly seats going to by polls ,Samajwadi Party had five seats, BJP had three while the alliance partners of NDA RLD and Nishad Party had one each. (IPA Service)

LUCKNOW: Terming the Ram Mandir inauguration as BJP-RSS-VHP event, the opposition parties of Uttar Pradesh have maintained distance from the program. Realising that BJP will take political benefits of the grand event to mobilise Hindu votes during forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, the opposition parties also want to be seen as Ram bhaktas.

Former chief Minister and national President of Samajwadi Party Akhilesh Yadav politely declined the invite to attend the ceremony and said he would visit the temple later on. Few hours before the inauguration of Ram temple, Akhilesh tweeted a couplet which talked about Siyaram.

At the same time the SP president is involved in construction of huge temple of Lord Shiva in his hometown Itawah. Akhilesh Yadav too has become very demonstrative regarding his visits to various temples and public display of observing puja and festivals.

Samajwadi Party leader is also aware about people’s memory of firing on karsewaks at Ayodhya in 1990 to protect Babri Mosque. After this incident, Mulayam Singh Yadav became very popular in muslim community. Since then his party is getting massive support of muslim voters in successive elections.

During 2022 assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party got unprecedented support from muslim community which increased the tally of the MLAs three times more. Recently Samajwadi Party leaders Shivpal and Swami Prasad Maurya defended the decision of Mulayam Singh Yadav government to protect Babri Mosque.

It is to be seen as to how Samajwadi Party deals with the post inauguration euphoria of Hindutva forces after the inauguration of Ram temple. That is why Akhilesh Yadav is working hard to strengthen his PDA alliance of backwards, dalits and Muslims.

Similar is the problem with Congress Party leadership which was also caught in the same dilemma whether to participate in the inauguration or not. Central leaders who were invited declined saying that it was BJP-RSS program.

The fact remains that that the statues of Ram Lalla were placed during the regime of Jawaharlal Nehru. The movement for Ram Janmabhumi was first started by Congress leader Dau Dayal Khanna and later on taken up by VHP.

It was during the regime of Rajiv Gandhi at the centre and Veer Bahadur Singh in the state that the locks were removed from Babri Mosque. Then again during the regime of ND Tiwari, the Shilanyas for Ram temple was felicitated by Rajiv Gandhi government.

The mishandling of Ayodhya issue by Congress saw erosion of Hindu votes to BJP and Muslim votes to Samajwadi Party and Harijans were won over by BSP under the leadership of Kansiram-Mayawati.

While state leaders under the leadership of UPCC president Ajay Rai visited Ayodhya for darshan few days before the inauguration of Ram Temple. Former MP of Ayodhya and former UPCC president Nirmal Khatri was invited to attend the inauguration which he accepted and participated.

There are leaders like Acharya Pramod Krishnan who publicly criticised the leadership for not participating in the inauguration. At the same time Acharya Pramod Krishnan who was Congress candidate for Lok Sabha polls from Lucknow was full praise for PM Narendra Modi for ensuring construction of Ram Temple following Supreme Court order.

It is going to be a testing time for Congress to deal with Hindutva forces within the party and outside during Lok Sabha polls.

BSP national president and former chief minister Mayawati welcomed the inauguration of Ram temple at Ayodhya and thanked the organisers for the invitation. Mayawati said that she would also welcome construction of the mosque ordered by Supreme Court. But she avoided any statement whether she would attend or not.

When there is a continuous decline in vote share of her party Mayawati has announced that her party would not join NDA or INDIA. BSP contesting Lok Sabha polls alone is bound to help BJP. (IPA Service)

LUCKNOW: Being the main opposition party in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav is on the driving seat of INDIA bloc. Much significance is being attached to the statement of Akhilesh Yadav that INDIA got more strength after recent assembly polls.

Irrespective of poor performance in assembly polls by the Congress, former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has launched attack on BJP governments at the centre and state for all round failure. Akhilesh Yadav repeatedly attacked BJP governments for problems being faced by all sections of society. He also blamed BJP governments for failure on economic front.

Samajwadi Party national president, who is keen to expand his Party in other states, claimed that his PDA (Pichda Dalit and alpsankhayak) will defeat NDA in all the 80 seats in UP. Akhilesh Yadav is under tremendous pressure of powerful Muslim community to resolve the differences with Congress Party for a respectable seat adjustment for Lok Sabha polls.

For Lok Sabha polls, Muslim community is also looking toward Congress and appreciate Rahul Gandhi for his bold and aggressive attitude against communalism. At the same time there is also realisation that Congress leader Kamal Nath should not have used derogatory remarks, against former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav over the issue of seat adjustment.

Had Kamal Nath behaved in a responsible manner, Akhilesh Yadav would not have made it a prestige issue and put up 70 candidates in Madhya Pradesh and addressed 22 rallies including road shows. The SP president mobilized all resources to put up a good show.

But Akhilesh Yadav miserably failed as his party could get only less than one per cent votes. At the same time Samajwadi Party was instrumental in causing defeat of Congress in four seats leading to BJP victory as a result of division of ant-BJP votes.

Now in UP, the seat sharing among INDIA parties would be the most difficult task before the leadership. Samajwadi Party has already announced its intention to contest 65 seats out of the total of 80 to play important role at national level, leaving 15 for other parties including alliance partners and Congress.

Irrespective of fact that Samajwadi Party got five seats in Lok Sabha in 2014LokSabha polls and also in 2019 polls Akhilesh Yadav wants to bargain on it’s strength as it increased its vote share and secured more than 100 seats in UP Assembly in 2022 elections.. Out of five seats won in 2019, Samajwadi Party lost prestigious seats Rampur and Azamgarh in by-elections. So SP’s effective strength in Lok Sabha before the 2024 polls is only three.

On the other hand, Congress leadership is also working on expanding the base of the Party by inducting muslim and dalit leaders and workers from different parties. Though Congress got only one seat in Lok Sabha and vote share reduced to only two percent, the leadership may look for more seats. Some sources estimate it at 20 which the SP will never agree to

Similar case is with alliance partner RLD having good presence in jat dominated western UP. Jayant Choudhry national president of RLD and grandson of former prime minister late Charan Singh is also looking for good number of seats to contest.

LUCKNOW: Former Chief Minister and national president of BSP, Mayawati is busy in strengthening her party at grassroot after making it clear that she would not join any alliance for 2024 Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh.. To clear doubt in the minds of media persons and political leaders, Mayawati repeatedly said that BSP will contest Lok Sabha and state assemblies polls all alone.

Mayawati made it clear that she would not join hands with NDA or INDIA and termed them as anti-poor, casteist, communal and pro-capitalist. Mayawati also condemned those forces who were busy in terming her pro-BJP as she refused to join INDIA.

Significantly Congress and BJP refrained from making any adverse comment on Mayawati or BSP with hope of having alliance for Lok Sabha polls in the fag end of the campaigning. Only Samajwadi Party and its leader Akhilesh Yadav repeatedly said that BSP was B team of BJP.

Mayawati is concentrating on organising training camps for party cadre to strengthening the organisation at grass -roots. Instructions have been issued to party leaders and coordinators to organise training camps with the participation of 500 persons at least. The family members of party workers are also expected to attend these camps.

Instructions have been issued to concentrate on dalit samaj only for training camps and educate the participants about the party’s ideology. It may be noted that BSP was formed in 1984 and training camps played important role in the success of the party in the elections.

Mayawati has also asked party leaders to reach out to those leaders who had left the party or became disillusioned and decided to sit at home. More emphasis is on to energise the party workers to motivate them to work for party candidates.

BSP increased its tally in the present Lok Sabha from nil to 10 only through alliance with Samajwadi Party in 2019 elections, .But soon after the polls, Mayawati dissolved the alliance saying SP failed to transfer votes to BSP candidates. The fact remains that BSP got support of Muslim community because of alliance with SP only.

Mayawati has taken lead in shortlisting candidates for Lok Sabha polls.. There have several meetings of party leaders and coordinators who have been involved in brain-storming sessions involving nephew of Mayawati Akash who is running the show for his aunt.

Mayawati is now depending on dalit samaj, backwards and Muslim community to win the elections. Mr Satish Mishra who at one time was brahmin face and number two person in the party is no longer important now. He was also instrumental in organising bhaichara meetings to bring powerful brahmin community which was instrumental in bringing party to power in UP in 2007 on its own. (IPA Service)

LUCKNOW:  The entire country is watching the first electoral battle between NDA and the just formed INDIA being fought in Ghosi assembly by-election in Uttar Pradesh. This is direct fight between BJP candidate Dara Singh Chauhan who belongs to OBC and supported by NDA factions and Sudhkar Singh of Samajwadi Party enjoying the support of Congress, left parties and other members of INDIA.

The by-election is taking place as sitting MLA of Samajwadi Party Dara Singh Chauhan quit the party and seat to join BJP. Dara Singh Chauhan had earlier been MLA, minister and MP. He also had been in Congress, Samajwadi Party, BJP and BSP earlier.

BJP leadership wants to project Dara Singh Chauhan as backward face in UP and other places during forthcoming Lok Sabha polls. Samajwadi Party candidate Sudhakar Singh has also been twice MLA and is considered to be local and easily accessible to the masses. He belongs to rajput upper caste.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BJP, more than 20 ministers are campaigning for Dara Singh Chouhan. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brijesh Pathak also addressed meetings for BJP candidate.

Omprakash Rajbar, and his NDA constituent party see this election as challenge. Since Rajbhar community has tremendous influence in this area that is why Om Prakash Rajbhar has to prove his utility by mobilising support for BJP candidate.

On the other hand Samajwadi Party candidate Sudhakar Singh has the support from INDIA partners Congress, RLD, left Parties. All india People’s Front has also announced the support for SP candidate who had been twice MLA.

Samajwadi Party national President Akhilesh Yadav is leading the campaign with the help of his uncles Shivpal Yadav and Ram Gopal Yadav. Samajwadi Party is playing aggressive backward card by raising the issue of caste census besides mobilising muslims and upper castes.

Samajwadi Party is concentrating on non-governance and deterioration and law and order and assault on women. The growing unemployment and inflation are also part of campaign. The plight of farmers is also being raised in election meetings.

Since BSP has not fielded any candidate the members of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes with their impressive presence in the constituency will decide the fate of the election. So NDA and INDIA are busy in winning over the support of these important segment of voters.

The outcome of Ghosi by-election will set the mood for future politics of NDA and INDIA in UP which sends 80 members in Lok Sabha. (IPA Service)

LUCKNOW: With the installation of Ajay Rai as Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee President, The Congress party high command wants to bring back party in fighting mode to take on BJP in the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. Considered to be an aggressive politician, Ajay Rai can help in the revival of fortunes of Congress which is out of power in UP since 1989.

With the appointment of Ajay Rai, the Congress hopes to bring back bhumihar and brahmins in eastern UP back to Congress. Ajay Rai belongs to bhumihar community which plays very important role in eastern UP politics. It has tremendous influence in districts bordering UP-Bihar.

Ajay Rai was Congress candidate against PM Narendra Modi in Varanasi in 2014 and 2019. He had been earlier thrice MLA on BJP ticket before moving to Samajwadi Party and in 2012 he joined Congress. Congress Party high command is expecting mobilisation of muslims and dalits alongwith Brahmins and bhumihars once the second phase of B harat Jodo Yatra takes place in major parts of UP.

It would be worth mentioning that Congress ruled UP for several decades due to combined support from brahmins, harijans and Muslims. The mishandling of Ayodhya issue by Congress leaders  at that time led to shifting of Muslims to Samajwadi Party and brahmins to BJP while Harijans had already shifted to BSP.

Ever since Mrs Priyanka Gandhi Vadhra became AICC general secretary UP Incharge she brought Ajay Kumar Lalloo as UPCC president followed by Brijlal Khabri former MP from BSP and now Ajay Rai has been brought who too had been with BJP and Samajwadi Party.

Congress experimented with a dalit UPCC president with Brijlal Khabri and zonal Presidents belonging to different castes failed at ground level. There was no growth in the organization. So much so Congress had worst performance in 2022 assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh.

As of now, Congress leaders are not very confident where party would be to retain Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat won by Mrs Sonia Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi already lost his Amethi seat to Mrs Smriti Irani. Ajay Rai is aware of the ground situation of the poor party organisation before 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

But in order to infuse confidence in party leaders and workers and send the message to other parties, Ajay Rai said that Rahul Gandhi will contest from Amethi and invite Priyanka Gandhi to fight from Varanasi Lok Sabha seat which is being represented by PM Narendra Modi . Although Congress, Samajwadi Party and RLD are part of opposition alliance INDIA but seat sharing would be very difficult.

It can be mentioned here that RLD has already staked claim for eight seats out of total of 80 seats from UP in Lok Sabha and Samajwadi Party and Congress are yet to start any discussions on seat sharing. As a part of INDIA alliance, SP has the main task in working out the seat sharing arrangement under the leadership of the SP president Akhilesh Yadav. Earlier Congress have the impression that the Party will start seat sharing talks only after the second Bharat Jodo Yatra. Now it will be watched whether the new PCC president takes up the seat sharing issue with Akhilesh Yadav before the third meeting of opposition alliance in Mumbai on August 31 and September 1. LUCKNOW: For their own survival and better future smaller political parties and caste based groups of Uttar Pradesh are looking for alliance with bigger political parties for 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Recently Mahan Dal announced its unconditional support to BSP led by former chief minister and national President Mayawati. Mahan Dal President Keshav Dev Maurya claimed that whichever party he supported, stood second or secured first position in elections.

Maurya said that Mahan Dal supported Akhilesh Yadav in 2022 assembly polls and Samajwadi Party emerged as powerful number two party. But after the polls Mahan Dal terminated the alliance with Samajwadi Party as candidates fielded by the party on Samajwadi Party symbol could not win a single seat.

It would be worth mentioning here that Mahan Dal had contested 2012 assembly polls and later in 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha polls and got good number of votes from backward communities but could not achieve success in term of seats.

During 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Samajwadi Party, RLD and another party wanted understanding with Mahan Dal but Keshav Dev Maurya entered into alliance with Congress Party. It may be mentioned that Mahan Dal has always been in demand due to its hold over OBC including kushwaha, shakya and saini.

On the other hand, BSP is desperately looking for alliance to make its presence felt in 2024 Lok Sabha polls. BSP is also wooing Muslim community. So much so BSP gave maximum tickets to Muslims. Mayawati has been saying that the combination of dalits and Muslims could ensure victory in elections.

During last few elections, BSP witnessed erosion of vote share and senior leaders leaving the party and joining other political parties. It was only in 2019 Lok Sabha polls, BSP entered into alliance with Samajwadi Party and increased its tally from nil to 10.

The other smaller political party Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party led by Om Prakash Rajbhar is all set to have alliance with BJP. Much significance is attached to recent meeting of Om Prakash Rajbhar with UP CM Yogi Adityanath in Varanasi. This meeting is being interpreted as the final discussion for the alliance before Lok Sabha polls.

For the last few months, senior BJP leaders including both the deputy chief ministers Brijesh Pathak and Keshav Prasad Maurya were in touch with Om Prakash Rajbhar. The manner in which the BJP leaders and ministers attended the wedding reception of Om Prakash Rajbhar’s son at Varanasi also made it clear that alliance would take place.

Om Parkash Rajbhar had earlier alliance with BJP and was also minster with CM Yogi Adityanath. But due to differences he quit the ministry and terminated the alliance. During 2022 assembly polls, Om Prakash Rajbhar entered into alliance with Samajwadi Party. When the alliance failed to capture power Om Prakash Rajbhar terminated the alliance with Samajwadi Party. Om Prakash Rajbhar and his party has good influence over OBC in eastern UP- that is why big political parties want alliance with SBSP.

Similarly Bheem Party claiming support of dalits in Western UP is looking forward to alliance with Samajwadi Party for Lok Sabha polls. Akhilesh Yadav and Chander Shekhar Ravan president of Bheem Party addressed joint meetings and press conference during recently held civic polls.

Chander Shekhar Ravan wanted alliance with Samajwadi Party in 2022 assembly polls but it could not materialise despite several meetings with Akhilesh Yadav. Bheem Party wanted more seats in alliance to contest assembly polls which was not acceptable to Akhilesh Yadav. This time the talks are on between Akhilesh Yadav and Chandra Shekhar Ravan for an alliance and it may be finalized soon. (IPA Service)

LUCKNOW: Irrespective of political alliance which may be decided later on, Samajwadi Party has started preparations for 2024 Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh by holding training camps in all the 80 constituencies and rath yatra in the state. The campaign for the polls has been named as Lok Jagran Abhiyan (public awareness campaign) under which training camps for workers are being organised by the party.

Under this program Samajwadi Party national President Akhilesh Yadav will take out the Rath Yatra which would visit all the 80 Lok Sabha constituencies before the elections. Former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav will address the big rallies in all the constituencies. Akhilesh Yadav will be accompanied by senior leaders who would also address rallies.

Samajwadi Party launched the Lok Jagran Abhiyan from Lakhimpur Kheri on June 5-6 where training camp was held with the participation of party workers. The experts addressed the workers and explained about the history and ideology of the party beside current challenges before the party. Akhilesh also launched Lok Jagran Yatra and travelled in a specially designed rath in Lakhimpur Kheri.

Samajwadi Party national President Akhilesh Yadav explained how important it was for the party to ensure the defeat of BJP in 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Akhilesh Yadav said that every section of society was unhappy with BJP governments at the centre as well as in the state.

Talking about assault on women, Akhilesh Yadav talked about sexual assault on female wrestlers and their protest. He charged the government for inaction against the culprits. Akhilesh Yadav said that innocent persons were being targetted in fake encounters and were victim of bulldozers. He all alleged that state witnessed maximum numbers of fake encounters since 2017 when BJP came into power. Akhilesh Yadav said women, youth, farmers were being targetted by the BJP government.

Former chief minister emphasised on the need of having caste based census which would ensure inclusive growth in the state. He charged the BJP never wanted development of dalits and OBCs, that is why it was against caste census. He said that his party would raise the issue of caste census in every meeting.

Samajwadi Party national president asked the participants of the training camp to strengthen the party network at the booth level and sector. He also asked them to find out how  the party lost in 2022 assembly polls despite very favourable atmosphere. Akhilesh Yadav said that Samajwadi Party candidates could not win due to misuse of the official machinery by BJP.

Samajwadi Party national president promised his party would give good representation to women in the party structure as well as Lok Sabha polls.

Samajwadi Party is facing biggest challenge to increase the number of MPs in Lok Sabha. It may be mentioned that party had won five seats in 2014 and again in 2019 the number remained the same despite having alliance with BSP which reached from nil to 10. LUCKNOW: BJP has consolidated its position in Uttar Pradesh with capturing of four mayor seats and leading in remaining 13 seats out of total 17 seats.

Significantly BJP won mayor seats in Lucknow, Jhansi, Ayodhya and Ghaziabad and was leading in rest of seats which not only strengthened the position of chief minister Yogi Adityanath but also boosted the morale of BJP leaders and workers especially after defeat in Karnataka.

BJP also gave big blow to Samajwadi Party when coalition partner Apna Dal won assembly by-election in Swar seat lying vacant due to disqualification of Abdullah son of powerful Samajwadi Party leader Mohd Azam Khan.

It may be mentioned that chief minister Yogi Adityanath had taken these elections very seriously and addressed many meetings for party candidates all over the  state. BJP had deployed senior leaders with other members of Sangh Parivar to campaign for candidates.

BJP also got the advantage by projecting elimination of mafia dons to improve the law and order. The killing of mafia dons Atiq and his brother in Prayagraj also helped in polarisation of votes especially from the majority community.

More so, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had given call for triple engine government for the development of the state. Main opposition party Samajwadi Party could not win single mayor seat but did well in corporators elections and nagar panchayats. Samajwadi Party national president and former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav should have given more importance to these polls and addressed more meetings, then the results could have been better.

The alliance of Samajwadi Party with RLD in Western UP cracked as candidates of both the parties contested against each other which helped BJP in a big way. There is a need for review meeting of alliance partners to prevent split of votes in crucial Lok Sabha polls next year.

BSP played aggressive Muslim card and was third after BJP and Samajwadi Party. The only place BSP was noticed that was Agra where candidate was ahead of BJP Mayor candidate after several rounds but ultimately lost the battle.

There is no doubt that aggressive Muslim card played by BSP damaged Samajwadi Party in several places. That is why Akhilesh Yadav had appealed voters to keep away from BSP which was helping BJP.

Congress leadership was embarrassed by the poor performance of candidates in mayoral polls as well as in nagar panchayats. Congress had tough time in finding suitable candidates in several places. It is high time   for Congress high command to seriously think about the party organisation before Lok Sabha polls. Congress should decide whether to rebuild the organisation to face Lok Sabha polls or bargain for one or two seats with Samajwadi Party. (IPA Service)

LUCKNOW: The body language of the Leader of the Opposition in Uttar Pradesh assembly, Akhilesh Yadav during recently concluded budget session of UP Legislature made it clear that Samajwadi Party was very serious to put up challenge to ruling BJP in 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Akhilesh Yadav launched attack on Yogi government on deterioration in law and order which was reflected through taking up triple murder in Prayagraj when the session was on. Samajwadi Party national President demanded as to how Yogi government would achieve the target of one trillion economy in the state.

The SP president also raised the issue of government claim of getting investment of three lakh crores of rupees. Samajwadi Party President said the government claim was based on the MOU signed during investment ceremony but government failed to disclose as to how much actually came to UP. Samajwadi Party also raised the issue of caste census on the plea that it would help in inclusive growth. Samajwadi Party MLAs raised posters and banners demanding caste census.

The backward cell of Samajwadi Party is organising seminars in all the constituencies from block level to district headquarters to sensitise people on the issue of caste census. Dr Rajyapal Kashyap president of the cell is addressing these seminars. Former minister Swami Prasad Maurya who recently came to highlight due to controversial remarks on Ram Charit Manas is also invited to address these seminars.

Significantly Akhilesh Yadav has directed to organise cadre training camp by Samajwadi Baba Bhimrao Ambedkar Vahini to reach out to dalit voters. As a part of the strategy he has asked his party MLAs to remain in their constituencies and raise the issues of deterioration in law and order, failure of BJP government to double the income of farmers, inflation, proposed hike in power tariff and other issues related to poor people of the state.

Akhilesh Yadav is also preparing the road map to address public meetings in districts after the three-day national executive scheduled in Kolkata next week. Much significance is attached to Akhilesh Yadav’s recent statement given in Amethi that his alliance will contest all the 80 Lok Sabha seats. Earlier Samajwadi Party had the understanding with Congress to leave two constituencies for Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. Similarly Congress also never put up any candidates against Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav.

It would be worth mentioning that Bahujan Samaj Party national President Mayawati has announced that her party would not enter into any alliance and contest all the 80 Lok Sabha seats. Being the main opposition party Samajwadi Party has to decide as to how to broaden the alliance and get like-minded parties including Congress to put up serious challenge to BJP.

It may be mentioned here that Samajwadi Party won five Lok Sabha seats in 2014. Again in 2019 Samajwadi Party entered into alliance with BSP but could retain its five Lok Sabha seats but helped BSP to gain 10 seats from zero in 2014 due to transfer of minorities votes. (IPA Service)

LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav has directed his party workers  to corner BJP on the issue of caste census and launch state-wide agitation. Samajwadi Party national President himself raised the issue of caste census during current session of Uttar  Pradesh  Assembly and said it was required for inclusive growth.

Akhilesh Yadav said if caste census was not allowed, then dream of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar would be fulfilled. Samajwadi Party had earlier promised caste census in party manifesto for 2022 assembly polls. Since BJP is against caste census, Samajwadi Party has decided to hold block level seminars to sensitise people about the need of caste census.

Akhilesh has asked Dr Rajpal Kashyap incharge of backwards cell of the party, to make necessary arrangements for holding seminars for this purpose and prepare lists of leaders who would address the seminars. Dr Rajpal Kashyap said that it was necessary to know the exact numbers of dalits and backwards, then only the schemes for their developments could be finalised. Samajwadi Party leaders claimed that caste census would bring about social justice and equality in the society.

As per the program Samajwadi Party will launch first phase of caste census agitation through seminars which  will start on February 24 and end on March 5. The seminar for caste census will start from Varanasi which is the parliamentary constituency Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The other Lok Sabha constituencies where caste census related seminars will be held are Prayagraj, Bhadoi, Mirzapur and Sonbhadra.

During next phase, all assembly constituencies will have block level seminars on caste census to be addressed by senior party leaders. Samajwadi Party has decided to use the issue of caste census as a major campaign plank against BJP in forthcoming local bodies polls and Lok Sabha polls.

That is why Samajwadi Party is giving importance to Swami Prasad Maurya who came into limelight due his comments on Ram Chart Manas when he raised the issue that certain portion was against backwards, dalits and women. At a time when BJP demanded action against him, party promoted Swami Prasad Maurya as national general secretary of the party.

So much so  two women leaders Roli Mishra and Richa Singh of the party raised their voices against Swami Prasad Maurya for his comments on Ram Charit Manas , the party was prompt in taking  action against them  and they were expelled from the party. On the other hand Samajwadi Party Backward cell incharge Dr Rajpal Kashyap announced that Swami Prasad Maurya would be called to address block level meetings on caste census. (IPA Service)

LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has shown political maturity by giving key position to his uncle Shivpal Yadav as national vice-president in recently constituted national executive of the party. It would be worth mentioning here that Akhilesh Yadav sorted out his differences with his estranged uncle after the demise of his father Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Few months back Akhilesh Yadav visited the residence of his uncle Shivpal Yadav and sought his help to campaign for his wife Dimple Yadav who contested from Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat which was vacant due to death of Mulayam Singh Yadav who had won from there in 2019.Lok Sabha polls.

Shivpal Yadav was also looking for a respectable home-coming so immediately   he announced merger of his party with Samajwadi Party. It was due to help and campaign by Shivpal Yadav, SP won from Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat with impressive margin. The contribution of Shivpal Yadav in this victory was quite visible.

The responsibility given to Shivpal Yadav will certainly help Samajwadi Party at the ground-level as he was instrumental in building the party organisation on behalf of his elder brother Mulayam Singh Yadav who was busy in  political activities at national level..

The induction of Shivpal Yadav in the organisation has enthused the party workers as he is most accessible to them. Earlier even as state president, Shivpal Yadav was always surrounded by party leaders and workers.

Akhilesh Yadav has also given key position of national vice-president to Swami Prasad Maurya despite his involvement in Ram Charit Manas controversy. Significantly enough Akhilesh Yadav has retained Prof Ram Gopal Yadav as Principal National Vice-president. Second most important person in the party. Mohd Azam Khan continues to be muslim face of the party, the position he enjoys since the inception of the party. He has also been given key position of national vice-president.

Keeping Mission 2024 Lok Sabha polls in mind, Akhilesh Yadav has given importance to non-Yadav OBCs, Dalits and Muslims in the national executive. SP is also preparing schedule for Akhilesh Yadav to start visiting Lok Sabha constituencies and reach out to masses and set the party’s narrative for Mission 2024.

It would be worth mentioning that Samajwadi Party could only retain its five seats in Lok Sabha in 2019 while the alliance partner BSP won 10 seats. The fact remains that BSP could not open account in 2014 but in 2019 the strategic alliance with SP helped BSP to get 10 seats.

As of now RLD has already announced to contest Lok Sabha polls in alliance with Samajwadi Party but Akhilesh Yadav is in touch with smaller parties and groups to enlarge the vote share.

Although BJP is much ahead in preparations for Lok Sabha polls, being the main opposition party leader Akhilesh Yadav has a bigger responsibility to look for alliance partners and set the narrative against BJP to put up the challenge before ruling party and increase number of seats in Lok Sabha. LUCKNOW: Mishandling of backwards quota issue for civic polls by BJP has given an issue to opposition to corner BJP and boost the morale of leaders like Akhilesh Yadav, Jayant Choudhry and Priyanka Gandhi. The only exception is BSP national president Mayawati who is seen giving advice to BJP and becoming more critical of Samajwadi Party and Congress.

Now it is to be seen as to how opposition leaders conduct themselves and reach out to public with the issue of backward quota for civic polls. BJP was embarrassed when Allahabad High Court directed UP government to conduct Civic polls without backward quota. It so happened that BJP government had issued the notification for holding civic polls without setting up backward commission and three phase survey. Now after the Allahabad High Court order, BJP government hurriedly set up the backward commission and announced that civic polls would be held after incorporating backward quota.

Akhilesh Yadav said that BJP was against the reservation for backwards which was exposed at the manner which party conducted regarding civic polls and issued notification without conducting any survey. He further alleged that BJP would also remove the reservation for scheduled caste and scheduled tribes in future.

Akhilesh Yadav has demanded special session of UP legislature to discuss the issue of backward quota for civic polls. Akhilesh Yadav said that backwards and scheduled castes and scheduled tribes would be forced to start agitation to protect their reservation. Samajwadi Party has also announced to start padayatra in support of reservation for backwards classes in civic polls.

Similarly RLD president Jayant Choudhry also attacked BJP for working against reservation for backward classes. Congress backward leader Manoj Yadav said that the real face of BJP was exposed which showed as to how saffron party was working against reservation for backward classes in civic polls.

As a Leader of Opposition and national president of Samajwadi Party, all eyes are on Akhilesh Yadav as to how he conducts himself in 2023 to unite opposition and reach out to people with their issue and take on Yogi government inside the Assembly as well as outside.

Although the challenge is big in view of better preparations by BJP which is always in election mode but time has come   for Akhilesh Yadav to prove whether he is prepared to come out of his comfort zone and reach out to entire opposition to challenge BJP government headed by chief minister Yogi Adityanath. LUCKNOW: By-elections results for Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat and two assembly seats Rampur Sadar and Khatauli in western Uttar Pradesh  have given clear message to BJP, Samajwadi Party and RLD to work hard and search for good alliance partners for 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Riding on sympathy factor for Mulayam Singh Yadav who passed away few months back, his daughter-in-law and SP candidate Dimple Yadav won byan  impressive margin against BJP candidate Raghuraj Singh Shakya in crucial by-election for Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat.

Beside sympathy factor for founder of Samajwadi Party, the credit also goes to political maturity of former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav who patched up with his estranged uncle Shivpal Yadav who after the results were announced, merged his party with Samajwadi Party. It would be worth mentioning here that after feud in the family, Shivpal Yadav parted company of Akhilesh Yadav in 2016 and formed his own party.

Significantly, Shivpal Yadav fielded his own candidates in 2017 assembly polls and was responsible for defeat of Samajwadi Party candidates in many constituencies. Although Shivpal Yadav had joined hands with his nephew in 2022 assembly polls, he was not happy as Akhilesh Yadav failed to give respectable position to him in the party.

Shivpal Yadav was instrumental in building up Samajwadi Party with elder brother Mulayam Singh Yadav. With Shivpal Yadav campaigning for Dimple Yadav, Samajwadi Party got very impressive votes in his Jaswantnagar assembly segment which helped the party to defeat BJP candidate by the margin of 2.88 lakh votes.  In 2019 polls, Mulayam Singh Yadav could win by 90,000 votes with the help of alliance partner BSP.

Now Akhilesh will have to show more maturity by finding responsible alliance partners and redraw strategy to win the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls. At the same time, the defeat of Rampur Sadar assembly constituency which was earlier won by powerful Muslim leader Mohd Azam Khan but had to vacate due to disqualification in hate speech, should lead to a thorough   appraisal. Defeat of Samajwadi Party candidate is a cause to worry for Akhilesh Yadav and Azam Khan especially in Muslim dominated constituency.

Although Samajwadi Party has demanded repoll in Rampur alleging large-scale misuse of official machinery but Akhilesh Yadav will have to think why Muslims were not voting for the party candidates. Earlier Samajwadi Party had lost in by-polls for Lok Sabha seats in Azamgarh and Rampur vacated by Akhilesh Yadav and Mohd Azam Khan respectively.

The victory of Khatauli assembly seat in Muzaffarnagar by RLD candidate who snatched seat from BJP has given boost to party president Jayant Choudhry. The seat was vacated by BJP candidate following his disqualification in hate speech. BJP gave ticket to his wife but she was defeated. Credit goes to Jayant Choudhry who showed maturity by having alliance with Bheem Party of Chandrashekhar Ravan who is a very powerful dalit leader in Western UP. He successfully mobilised support of dalits for RLD. Now Akhilesh Yadav should also win over Bheem Party like his alliance partner Jayant Choudhry did.

BJP has made some breakthrough in Muslim belt and it has all the more reason to celebrate by winning Rampur its first non-Muslim candidate since 1952. But defeat in Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat and Khatauli will force the leadership to work hard and redraw strategy for Lok Sabha polls.

BJP leadership is aware that party lost in two constituencies despite massive mobilisation of workers and campaign by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath who addressed meetings in all the three constituencies. (IPA Service)

LUCKNOW: BJP is desperate to win Mainpuri Lok Sabha by-election to  make significant dent in what is known as yadavland to demoralise Samajwadi Party before crucial 2024 Lok Sabha polls. It would be worth mentioning here the Mainpuri by-election is taking place on December 5 following demise of sitting MP and founder of Samajwadi Party Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Significantly Samajwadi Party national President Akhilesh Yadav has fielded his wife Dimple Yadav to carry forward the legacy of Mulayam Singh Yadav family and take the advantage of sympathy factor.

BJP as a part of   its big strategy fielded Raghuraj Shakya, close associate of Shival Pal Yadav, younger brother of Mulayam Singh Yadav and uncle of Shivpal Yadav. Raghraj Shakya had been twice MP from Itawa thanks to total support of his mentor Shivpal Yadav.

Raghuraj Shakya had been in Samajwadi Party all through but joined Shivpal Yadav when he formed Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party but just before 2022 assembly polls he joined BJP. In order to confuse the voters and gain sympathy votes, BJP candidate Raghuraj Shakya visited samadhi of Mulayam Singh Yadav before filing his nomination..

During last Lok Sabha polls, BJP candidate Prem Singh Shakya managed good number of votes against powerful Mulayam Singh Yadav and was defeated by a margin of 90,000 votes. Knowing the influence of Shakya community in this region, Akhilesh Yadav also appointed former MLA Alok Shakya as district party President few days before Dimple Yadav filed   her nomination.

Akhilesh Yadav also met his uncle Shivpal Yadav and declared him as one of the star campaigners for Dimple Yadav for Mainpuri polls. Taking the election seriously, BJP has mobilized a large number of workers from the frontal organisations of the Sangh Parivar.

Mainpuri constituency has 17 lakh voters and main chunk of four lakh yadavs and 80,000 Muslims and two lakhs shakya. The presence of 1.5 lakh dalit votes in this constituency will  be  crucial in absence of BSP. It is very difficult to predict which  party will   be   getting   the   dalit  votes.

Significantly Congress has also not fielded any candidate in this crucial by-election but traditional voters are likely to support Samajwadi Party! Akhilesh Yadav is in touch with all those parties determined to defeat BJP to support Samajwadi Party candidate Dimple Yadav.

On the other hand, BJP is banking on achievements of state as well as central government to win over the voters and support from those voters who traditionally support saffron Party’s ideology of Hindutva.

Whatever may be result of Mainpuri bypoll, it would certainly impact the preparations of BJP and Samajwadi Party for 2024 Lok Sabha polls especially the leadership of Akhilesh Yadav. (IPA Service)

Taking this challenge seriously Akhilesh Yadav decided to field his wife Dimple Yadav to face the by-election scheduled for December 5. Akhilesh  is aware that the fate of Mainpuri Lok Sabha by-election will also  impact  the   course  of Samajwadi Party in crucial 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav is under tremendous pressure to retain Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat which had always been won by his party. More so, the SP supremo was embarrassed when he could not protect his own Lok Sabha seat in by-election held few months back. It was a great humiliation for Akhilesh Yadav and another important leader of party Mohd Azam Khan when they could not protect their seats in Azamgarh and Rampur respectively.

Akhilesh Yadav was blamed by party leaders as well as political commentators for gifting these two seats to BJP as he failed to campaign for party candidates. This time Akhilesh Yadav is very serious about sentiments of the family and party leaders involved in Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat from where founder of Samajwadi Party Mulayam Singh Yadav won in 2014 with the margin of over 90,OOO votes.

The caste combination of Yadav and Muslim in Mainpuri  is enough to ensure victory of Samajwadi Party. But on the other hand BJP appears to be  serious in winning the seat and does not want to leave any chance.

With the heavy presence of Shakya backwards in this Lok Sabha  constituency ,Akhilesh Yadav appointed former MLA Alok Shakya as district president of party two days before announcement of Dimple Yadav as party candidate. It would be worth mentioning here that of five assembly segments of Mainpuri Lok Sabha constituency, BJP won Mainpuri and Bhogaon while Samajwadi Party won Kisni, Karhal and Jaswantnagar.

It may be mentioned that Mainpuri has been with Samajwadi Party since 1996 from where Mulayam Singh won  four times while other family members Balram Singh Yadav, Tej Pratap and Dharmendra Yadav one  term each.

BJP is ready to give tough fight in Mainpuri where it’s candidate Prem Singh Shakya put up brave fight by getting 44 per cent votes as compared to 52 per cent votes polled by Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Now all eyes are on Shivpal Yadav who is estranged uncle of Akhilesh Yadav and sitting MLA from Jaswantnagar assembly segment of Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat. If Shivpal Yadav decides to support Dimple Yadav, then it would be very easy for Samajwadi Party to retain the seat with help of sympathy factor for Mulayam Singh Yadav. (IPA Service)

After worst ever performance in Uttar Pradesh assembly polls held in March this year, Mayawati is working very hard to enlarge the support base of her party which was reflected through the changes she made in the organisation and new appointments. Perhaps Bahujan Samaj Party is the party in the state which held so many review meetings with party leaders to find out the root causes for worst ever performances in assembly polls.

Mayawati is also aware that Samajwadi Party got the maximum support from minority community in 2022 assembly polls which helped its  vote percentage in number of seats in UP Assembly. That is why she is more keen to make dent in minority support of Samajwadi Party. Although BSP fought 2019 Lok Sabha elections in alliance with Samajwadi Party which helped the party to increase its tally from zero to 10. Soon after the polls, Mayawati ended the alliance.

The recent induction of former MLA Imran Masood who belongs to the powerful political family of Saharanpur in Western UP is very significant in UP politics. With the induction of Imran Masood, Mayawati aims to gain support of Muslim community which has good presence in Western UP. That is why Imran Masood has been made incharge of party in Western UP and is given task to bring Muslim community to BSP.

Mayawati welcomed Imran Masood with her statement that the entry of leaders like Imran Masood demonstrated the mood of Muslim community which was fed up with the divisive policy of BJP. Mayawati said that the induction of Imran Masood is very important before civic elections.

It would be worth mentioning here that Imran Masood was very important leader in Congress for almost a decade. He contested elections in 2014, 2017 and 2019 but lost. In 2022 Imran Masood joined Samajwadi Party with a hope that he would be given ticket or be made Rajya Sabha MP. Having failed to get both, Imran Masood   got frustrated and was looking for new opening. Mayawati is confident of getting support from Muslim community after by-election for Lok Sabha seat in Azamgarh vacated by Akhilesh Yadav where BSP candidate Guddu Jamali got impressive votes from his community.

At a time when BJP is also working very hard to make inroads in Pasmanda Muslims, the fight for crucial minority community votes has intensified with BJP, Samajwadi Party, BSP and Congress in the fray.  That is why Congress has made Nasimuddin Siddiqui, who at one time  had very important position in BSP, regional President of the party to consolidate minority community for the party which once ruled the state with vote bank of Brahmins, Muslims and Scheduled castes and Scheduled tribes.

BSP had earlier  also attempted to bring Muslims to party fold especially in 2017 assembly polls when party distributed more  than100 tickets to Muslims.  The aggressive Muslim card played by BSP helped in total polarisation of Hindu voters for BJP which came to power with more than 300 seats.

Now it is to be seen as to how the attempts of Mayawati to overhaul the organisation and enlarge the support base in different castes  and religion help Bahujan Samaj Party to regain its vote share which helped  it to  come to power on its own in 2007   assembly  polls. (IPA Service)

LUCKNOW: With the decline of BSP in successive elections, Congress in Uttar   Pradesh is now depending on imported leaders from that party to regain traditional dalit votes in 2024 Lok Sabha poll. Major political parties were surprised when Congress high command announced the name of BSP import Brijlal Khabri, a dalit from Bundelkhand as new UPCC president.

This post was lying vacant since March this year  when AICC President Sonia Gandhi sought the resignation from Ajay Kumar Lallu after worst ever performance in last assembly polls when the  party got two MLAs and vote share reduced to only two percent. This time Congress has experimented with the appointment of six regional presidents keeping the caste equation in mind for Lok Sabha polls.

Significantly out of these seven presidents, six are from BSP only, which shows that Congress is desperate to regain traditional vote bank of dalits back in the party fold. Senior Congress leaders are unhappy with the choice of the panel of presidents to revive the fortune of the party on the strength of those imported from BSP.

It would be worth mentioning here that Congress ruled in UP till 1989 with the support of vote bank consisting of bramins, harijans and Muslims. BSP was the first poach members of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe, then BJP got brahmins in the name of Ram Janambhoomi issue and Muslims went to Samajwadi Party when chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav ordered firing on karsewaks in Ayodhya in 1990 to protect Babri Masjid.

Way back in 1996, Congress under Narasimha Rao entered into alliance with BSP leaving only 125 seats but both the parties could not get good number of seats. BSP national President dissolved the alliance and blamed Congress for its failure to shift it’s voters for BSP candidates.

Again in 2017 assembly polls, Congress entered into alliance with Samajwadi Party and Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav addressed joint rallies in several districts but both the parties miserably failed to get respectable seats. So much so, beyond anybody’s expectation BJP got more than 300 seats and captured power.

When AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi was made incharge of UP, it was expected that her personal charisma would help the revival of party. There is no doubt during covid Congress was the only opposition party which was seen hitting the streets and leadership was taking Yogi government head on on every issue of governance.

There was huge rush at public meetings addressed by Priyanka Gandhi and road shows were too grand success. But the results exposed worst ever performance of the party with two seats and only two percent vote share. The rank and file of Congress Party is so demoralised that Priyanka Gandhi failed to visit after initial review meeting.

Now Brijlal Khabri who had been twice MP when he was in BSP and national coordinator has the responsibility to regain dalits from his former party and revitalise Congress with his vast experience of being a grassroot level worker.

Along with Brijlal Khabri, six other regional presidents have been picked up to balance the caste equation. Out of these six regional presidents, two are brahmins, one muslim, one bhumihar and two from backwards.

With the selection of new President and his team of regional presidents Congress is facing biggest challenge to regain its earlier vote bank having brahmins, harijans and dalits to get respectable number of seats in Lok Sabha from UP. (IPA Service)

LUCKNOW: Leader of Opposition and Samajwadi Party national President Akhilesh Yadav has decided that his party would hit the streets on public issues to take on BJP to face 2024 Lok Sabha. Former chief minister Akhilesh Yadav led impressive padayatra of his party legislators on the opening day of UP Legislature session.

Akhilesh Yadav started his padyatra from party headquarters to Vidhan Bhawan to highlight the issues of collapse of law and order, growing unemployment and crime against women. When police administration stopped the padayatra from going any further Akhilesh Yadav directed his party legislators to stage dharna in protest. Samajwadi Party MLAs also organised mock session of Vidhan Sabha on the streets.

Akhilesh Yadav has realised the ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is  helping  the Congress. Reaching out to masses on streets with public issues was the only way to spread the message of party and gain politically in the elections.

Akhilesh Yadav’s SP won  in 2012 assembly polls and came to power after he led cycle yatra in the state and covered the state. He was young and fresh face of the party which motivated masses to bring Samajwadi Party to power.

Akhilesh’s father and founder of Samajwadi Party Mulayam Singh Yadav also formed Krantikari Morcha in late eighties and toured the state in Kranti Rath which paid rich dividend and people installed him as the chief minister of  the state.

It would be worth mentioning here whatever success Akhilesh Yadav got in terms of vote share and number of seats in 2022 assembly polls that was due to his rathyatra which toured the state and was able to mobilise the people in favour of SP. Besides hitting the streets, Akhilesh Yadav is busy revamping his party in a big way. He has dissolved all state and district units to bring youth and give them responsibility to spread the message of party.

Akhilesh Yadav has also announced to organise national and state conferences later this month. He has given responsibility to his uncle Prof Ram Gopal Yadav to make necessary arrangements. As of now, Samajwadi Party is in alliance with Rashtriya Lok Dal of Jayant Choudhry which has  good  influence on powerful  jat community in Western UP.

Akhilesh Yadav has parted company of Mahan Dal and Suheldev Bhartiye Samaj Party of Om Prakash Rajbhar and his uncle Shivpal Yadav after bitter experience in 2022 assembly polls.  But SP is looking for new partners and it will be interesting  to see who join before  the 2024 polls.

Former chief minister Mayawati too is busy in making preparations for Lok Sabha polls silently. Mayawati and Bahujan Samaj Party are not known for hitting streets on public issues. After worst ever performance in UP Assembly polls with only two percent of vote share and single seat, Mayawati is facing biggest challenge in her political career to rebuild the party to face Lok Sabha polls.

There have been series of review meetings of senior party leaders with Mayawati establishing dialogue with important leaders. Mayawati has given more responsibility to her brother Anand and nephew Akash to take important decisions to run the party. Mr Satish Mishra who was brahmin face of the party and commanded number two position in the party, is nowhere to be seen in party meetings.

Ever since BSP was launched in 1984 by Kansiram, the party believed in keeping the interest of bahujan samaj on the top. It was only in 2007 Mayawati started giving importance to powerful brahmin community.  Mayawati has revived the system of bhaichara samiti to win over other communities. BSP national president Mayawati witnessed large scale exodus of senior leaders and workers in last few years. Now it would be very difficult to find senior leaders who were inducted during the time of founder Kansiram.

Mayawati is also facing credibility crisis as she became Chief Minister thrice with the support of BJP. Even now she is seen as advising the national and state governments rather being critical on the issues of governance. (IPA Service)

LUCKNOW: The Congress is facing biggest challenge to revive the party in Uttar  Pradesh to face 2024 Lok Sabha polls after worst ever performance in assembly polls held in March. this year. It would be very difficult for Congress to save Rae Bareli Lok Seat which was won by party president Mrs Sonia Gandhi. In last Lok Sabha polls Congress won only one seat in 2019 polls Rahul Gandhi lost Amethi in 2019 and he got elected to Lok Sabha from the second seat in Kerala..

With large number of exodus of Congress loyalists in Rae Bareli, it would be very difficult for Congress to retain Rae Bareli which had been stronghold of Nehru-Gandhi family since the time of Feroz Gandhi who represented this constituency in Lok Sabha.

In the absence of any state president and lack of interest of central leadership, there is complete demoralisation in rank and file of Congress. So much so, with no senior leader visiting the office, state headquarter of UPCC gives the deserted look.

There has been large scale exodus of senior leaders from the party during last one year. There has been no attempt to bring them back to party fold. In the absence of any recognition from the leadership, large number of Congress workers, leaders have preferred to sit at home or look toward other parties.

There are reports that senior leaders politely declined to take the responsibility of state president after the removal of Ajay Kumar Laloo following worst ever performance in assembly polls. Congress leaders and workers are waiting for AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi to return to Lucknow to galvanise the party to face Lok Sabha polls. Priyanka assured earlier that she would stay in Lucknow but instead she is rarely coming to Lucknow.

There has been only one review meeting to analyse the reasons for worst performance of party in assembly by Priyanka Gandhi. It was announced that a new road map would be set up for reviving the party and over haul the organisation with the mobilisation of youth. But Priyanka Gandhi was too preoccupied with mobilising support of party for National Herald case involving Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

At a time when minority community is. looking towards Congress it would be very difficult for party to bring back its traditional vote bank of brahmins, dalits and muslims. It is worth mentioning here that Congress got only two seats in UP Assembly polls with vote share also reduced to two percent.

Congress is out of power in UP since 1989 and lost its brahmin support to BJP due to Ram Mandir issue and Muslims to Samajwadi Party when Mulayam Singh Yadav ordered firing on karsewaks to protect Babri Mosque and dalits to BSP.

The decline of Congress was contributed by various alliances Party made since 1996. It may be mentioned that Congress entered into alliance with BSP in 1996 assembly polls. Major share of 300 seats was grabbed by BSP while Congress was given only 125 seats. After miserable performance BSP dumped Congress. Again Congress entered into alliance with Samajwadi Party in 2017. Both the parties of the alliance miserably failed paving way for clear majority for BJP. Under these circumstances it would be tough challenge for Congress to revive the party and regain its vote share before Lok Sabha polls. (IPA Service)

LUCKNOW: With the appointment of jat leader Bhupendra Choudhry, Panchayati Raj minister in Yogi Adityanath Ministry as BJP president of Uttar Pradesh, BJP has attempted to counter SP-RLD in Western UP. It was only after several months devoted by BJP and RSS and meetings, the top leadership finalised the name of Bhupendra Choudhry as state president to succeed Swatantra Dev Singh who was inducted in Yogi Ministry.

Bhupendra Choudhry had been with RSS and was with Viswa Hindu Prashad before playing active role in BJP. He had been regional secretary and later on regional incharge of party in Western UP between 2006 and 2014. He was instrumental in working with jat community and getting good support in all previous elections.

It was only when SP-RLD alliance did well in Western UP in 2022 assembly polls and success of farmers agitation, BJP realised that  the party would face  serious challenge in 2024 Lok Sabha polls . Then decision was taken to bring Bhupendra Choudhry as state president. With his close proximity with powerful Union Home Minister Amit Shah and backing of RSS Bhupendra Choudhry is likely to play important role not only in mobilizing jat community but also galvanizing the party organisation for Lok Sabha polls. Known for his vast experience in the building up the organisation BJP is looking for major gain in forthcoming elections.

Since Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath belongs to Gorakhpur in eastern UP, BJP has also attempted to regional balancing by bringing state president from Western UP. Significantly Bhupendra Choudhry made it clear that there would be better coordination between the government and party in UP. Bhupendra Choudhry cleared the doubt created by the tweet of deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya that party organisation was bigger than the government.

BJP state President Bhupendra Choudhry said that CM Yogi Adityanath was successfully implementing policies and programs of BJP. He also supported the claim of CM Yogi Adityanathth at the BJP would achieve the target of all the 80 seats in Lok Sabha from UP. The manner in which reception of Bhupendra Choudhry was organised on his arrival in Lucknow made it clear that he enjoyed the support of the government as well as senior leaders of the party.

There is no doubt that BJP state President Bhupendra Choudhry is facing tough task to galvanise the party organisation in the absence of powerful general secretary Sunil Bansal who has been elevated and made All India General Secretary in charge of states where party is attempting to make inroads. LUCKNOW: Mission 2017 to capture power in Uttar Pradesh has prompted a major political move which is to play aggressive dalit card to woo member of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes who constitute more than 22 per cent of the total population.

Keeping the next assembly polls in mind, BSP supremo Mayawati also sent two dalits Raja Ra, and Veer Singh to Rajya Sabha.

This was done to consolidate the core vote bank of BSP, part of which had shifted to BJP during last Lok Sabha polls. It would be worth mentioning here that BSP could not win a single seat in Lok Sabha.

Admitting shift in her vote bank, Mayawati said that although she believed in sarv samaj policy, she was sending daltis to Rajya Sabha in the interest of her core voters.

Realising the exodus of her voters to BJP, she had warned dalits that they would only be used as a tool to increase the tally by the saffron party.

Congress also realised that it was high time that it should make efforts to bring back its original dalit voters back to party fold.

At a time when senior leaders like former union ministers Beni Prasad Verma and Salman Khursheed were making sincere efforts to make it to Raj Sabha, Congress high command decided in favour of its dalit face PL Punia.

It would be worth mentioning here that PL Punia had been an IAS officer in UP and worked in key departments. He became Congress MP from Barabanki reserved seat and was made chairman of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled tribe Commission.

With the nomination of Punia, Congress has attempted to send the message to dalits all over the country that the party selected the persons who have working records to safeguard their interests.

Samajwadi Party by supporting Punia to send him to Rajya Sabha not only settled score with BSP but succeeded in sending across a message to the dalits that party as well as Akhilesh Yadav government in UP were serious about dalits.

Samajwadi Party national president Mulayam Singh Yadav has been saying that his party government had always worked to safeguard interest of dalits and provided them protection.

With Narendra Modi as PM, BJP is also making serious efforts to capture power in 2017 this is what Modi and party president Amit Shah have been saying all through.

BJP got a boost when a large number of dalits voted for party candidate to make Narendra Modi the PM in general elections 2014.

As a follow up, BJP leaders in UP have been asked to maintain good relations with dalits and share meals with them at regular intervals.

The saffron party is giving importance to dalits leaders in the organisation from state level to grass root level.

It may be mentioned here during the three-day conclave of RSS in Lucknow, instructions were given to workers and leaders by supremo Mohan Bhagwat that all attempts should be made to win over dalits and regular meetings should held in their areas.

As part of their strategy, BJP leaders are under instructions to support dalits if they are found to be involved in tussles with any other community.

A senior BJP leader said that party always supports dalits so much so top leaders had earlier visited the residence of dom raja in Varanasi to have food with him.

In addition, top leaders, including union home minister, Rajnath Singh, who is MP from Lucknow, have adopted those villages under PM scheme that have a sizeable population of dalits. (IPA Service)

LUCKNOW: The elections for 10 Rajya Sabha seats from UP next month will decide future alliances by different political parties for 2017 assembly polls in the state.

At present all the major political parties are busy in giving final shape to list of candidates but leadership of various political parties are under pressure to accommodate important leaders for future politics.

It would be worth mentioning here that with the tally of 230 MLAs ruling Samajwadi party is expected to get six seats in Rajya Sabha. BSP with 80 MLAs cannot send more than two. But fact remains that BSP would be in for big loss as its six members are retiring.

BJP with its tally of 41 seats in UP assembly will be able to send one Member in Rajya Sabha and Congress with 28 MLAs will have to seek support from Samajwadi Party to send one member.

It would be interesting to see whether Samajwadi Party national president Mulayam Singh Yadav obliges his former man Friday Amar Singh whose term is also coming to end. There were speculations that Amar Singh would return to party fold during national convention held in Lucknow but he was nowhere to be seen. it so happened that Amar Singh was invited by Mulayam Singh Yadav to attend the function in the memory of  Janeshwar Mishra few months back and it gave rise to speculations that he would return to party fold and could be sent to Rajya Sabha.

Another veteran leader and former union minister, and now considered to be very close to Rahul Gandhi, could be accommodated by Mulayam Singh Yadav to win over kurmi backward votes. Although Beni Prasad Verma had been launching attack on Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav on the issue of governance and corruption, yet as political analysts say, nothing is impossible in politics.

Another interesting name doing round in political circles for SP is that of Krishna Patel, who had been President of Apna Dal founded by her late husband Sonelal Patel. Samajwadi Party wants to capitalise on family disputes as mother is confronting daughter Anupriya Patel who became Lok Sabha member with the help of BJP. Mother Krsihna Patel, who recently contested assembly by-polls on the seat vacated by her daughter, accused Anupriya of sabotaging her elections and causing her defeat.

Now in order to weaken BJP alliance with Apna Dal, Samajwadi Party wants to capitalise on family feud and send Krishna Patel to Rajya Sabha to win over powerful kurmi votes from the Apna Dal.

Another interesting development to watch is whether Mulayam Singh Yadav gives support to RLD President Ajit Singh who could manage Congress votes as well.

It would be worth mentioning here that RLD president Ajit Singh witnessed erosion in his jat support when he along with his son lost in last Lok Sabha polls. Now ever since he raised the issue of memorial of his late father Charan Singh he got support from SP and Congress and Janata Dal (U). If Mulayam Singh Yadav decided to help Ajit Singh then it could be beginning of a maha-alliance in Bihar pattern to take resurgent BJP in next UP assembly polls.

There is great speculation in BJP also whether party would keep its promise to send former Lucknow MP Lalji Tandon to Rajya Sabha. It would be worth mentioning here that when party decided to field Rajnath Singh from Lucknow, then Tandon was given assurance that he would be either be made governor or sent to Rajya Sabha. When Tandon was given offer for governorship he politely declined and said he would prefer Rajya Sabha to remain in active politics.

The suspense behind two BSP tickets is also being talked about in political circle as Mayawati is keeping nomination of persons to close to her.

There are talks that Mayawati could give Rajya Sabha nominations to new persons and in that case senior leader RK Choudhry could be accommodated. What would be the fate of Akhilesh Das whose term coming to end as well? Akhilesh Das, known for his proximity to various political parties, could spring surprise at the eleventh hour as he has support of moneybags too.

Although Congress has only 28 MLAs but there is a long list of senior party leaders who are mounting pressure on the leadership with the assurance they would get support from SP. Heading the list are former union ministers Kapil Sibal and Salman Khurshid and Beni Prasad Verma. The other leaders also trying their luck are for cabinet minister Dr Ammar Rizvi and Siraj Mehendi. LUCKNOW: The three-day RSS national conclave, which ended in Lucknow, the city of erstwhile nawabs, on Sunday expressed concerned over decline in people’s participation in RSS shakhas all over the country.

Much significance is being attached to the speech of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat who not only expressed his concern but asked all senior leaders and workers to enroll more members in the shakhas.

It would be worth mentioning here that RSS shakhas are the main strength of the Sangh parivar where people are trained and educated about RSS philosophy.

The senior members of RSS observed that the number of shakhas had declined all over the country, especially in northern states like UP and Bihar that are ruled by non-BJP governments.

Significantly, RSS chief Mohan Bhagat appealed to all workers, ‘Swayam Sewaks’, to attended shakhas regularly.

Bhagwat and other senior leaders appealed to members of the Sangh parivar, including 30 frontal organisations participating in the conclave, to reach out to youth of the country to bring them to shakhas, as India has a large number of youth population.

With Modi government at the centre, RSS wants to broaden the base of the Sangh parivar. That is why call was given to reach out to all section of society and win over the remaining states for BJP in remaining years.

Mohan Bhagwat asked ABVP workers to concentrate especially on people from medical and technical fraternity to broaden the base of RSS.

Similarly he advised VHP to work on the eradication of untouchability and child marriages to make more goodwill in the society.

Keeping in mind 2017 assembly polls in UP, call was given out to RSS workers to win over dalits, core voters of BSP, by sharing food with them time to time and extend full support if they face any problem from Akhilesh Yadav government.

It would be worth mentioning here that RSS-BJP had already started working on the agenda to win over dalits in western UP which paid rich dividends in Lok Sabha polls.

Whenever there was confrontation between dalits and Muslims especially in western UP, BJP-RSS leaders were seen supporting dalits as there was no attempts from BSP leaders to help them.

In order to help Modi government, RSS has now decided to shed the image of being anti-Muslim. Several participants in the conclave said the time had come that RSS should work with Muslim community to instill confidence that it was not anti-Muslim organisation and would support nationalist Muslims but would oppose the policy of Muslim appeasement.

As expected the issue of “love jihad” was also raised during three-day conclave and participants said that it was not simply an attempt to lure Hindu girls for marriage by Muslim boys but it was a conspiracy against Hindu culture. It would be worth mentioning here that the issue of  “love jihad” was raised by BJP during last assembly by-polls but it could not make any impact as party lost majority of its seats.

It was also pointed out in the conclave by the participants that but for BJP and its friendly parties all other political parties were supporting “love jihad”.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and other participants expressed concern over the terror situation in the country and condemned terrorist organisations like Al-Qaeda and ISIS, saying there are regular threats from them to India.

The participants also expressed concern over the regular attacks from Pakistan and China on birder and asked for counter attack from India to defend its birder and self respect.

Senior political analyst Surendra Rajput said that apathy of RSS toward women who constitute half of the population is evident from fact that conclave had representation from women. Similarly, Congress spokesman Satyadeo Tripathi said that RSS leaders had no face in parliamentary democracy that they avoided casting this vote in Nagpur and came to attend the conclave.

The political analyst feel that RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat must have discussed road map for BJP and the Sangh parivar for 2017 assembly polls with BJP national president Amit Shah and other senior leaders of BJP who attended the conference.

In order to save Modi government from any embarrassment, RSS conclave did not pass any resolution to put any pressure on the government.

Even the issue of Ram Temple was discussed on such a manner that it should not create any problem for Modi government. RSS said that construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya was a national issue and Modi government had ample time till 2019 to act on it. BJP national president Amit Shah also supported this stand of RSS. LUCKNOW: Bahujan Samaj Party supremo. Mayawati is unnerved at the prospects of her party at the next assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh scheduled in May 2017. After the BSP’s disastrous results at the Lok Sabha elections  in May this year, the BSP chief made another mistake by not fielding party candidates in the by elections to the state assembly in September this year. The big success of her arch rival Samajwadi Party in the bypoll, has made the future of the BSP more critical.

The manner in which Samajwadi Party was able to win eight out of 11 assembly seats, it was quite evident that BSP voters also helped Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav who succeeded in making inroads on BSP vote bank. Significantly enough dalit voters and Muslims who had so far been voting for BSP shifted to Samajwadi Party as it was in direct fight with BJP. So much so, Mayawati’s appeal to voters to transfer their votes in favour of eight powerful independents also failed. For the first time, Mayawati miserably failed to get her voter transferred to any other party of her choice.

Similarly Mayawati is also unhappy with situation when her party leaders are talking against upper caste and they issue statements asking party workers to do away with puja of Hindu gods. Mayawati is still keen to keep upper caste in good humor in the name of sarvjan hitai and sarvjan sukhai.

BSP supremo Mayawati was embarrassed when Leader of opposition and veteran BSP leader Swami Prasad Maurya, at a party programme on the outskirts of Lucknow recently, asked party supporters not to worship Lord Ganesh and Goddess Gauri during weddings. “This is a Manuwadi tradition that believes in divide and rule. The custodians of Hindu religion will give respect and worship a pig as Varah, the mouse as Ganesh, the owl as Laxmi and the dog as a symbol of Bhairon but dalits are treated as outcasts in the religion. Are we worse than these animals?” he asked. Mr Maurya added that dalits were rulers on the true sense of the term and Samrat Mahapadanand and former Bihar chief minister Karpoori Thakur are examples of this.

“But Manuwadi forces created divisions amongst us and captured power. They divided us in categories like OBC, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and now maha dalits and most backward castes. They (Manuwadi forces) make us put vermilion and money on cow dung but treat us with disdain. They are taking advantage of our innocence in the name of religion and this practice must stop”, he said.

So much so Swami Prasad Maurya asked party supporters to follow the path shown by Dr Ambedkar, the late Kanshi Ram and now Ms Mayawati and not to get misled by upper caste forces. He said that dalits had been duped for decades by such forces.

As a part of damage control, Mayawati issued the statement, in which she emphasized that the BSP respected all religions and believed that everyone had the right to practise any religion, any ritual that he wished to. She said that the party strongly believed in “Sarvjan Hitaye, Sarvjan Sukhaye” and believed in tolerance. In order to distance from the statement of party leader Swami Prasad Maurya, Mayawati made it clear that party had nothing to with his statement.

Although Mayawati tried to silence Swami Prasad Maurya but she realised that majority of her core voters had been taught by late Kanshi Ram to oppose the discrimination in the society of dalits by the upper caste for centuries. The core voters of Mayawati is restless with the  manner in which key positions in the party and government were given by Mayawati to her close lieutenant Satish Mishra and his family members at the cost of persons belonging to dalit category. There is feeling in the core voters in party that if Mayawati herself was wooing upper caste in a big way then they should directly negotiate with BJP as happened in Lok Sabha polls when party could not open its account.

Under these circumstances, Mayawati affected major changes in the party hierarchy recently by sacking all the coordinators, booth in-charges and assembly coordinators and announcing formation of nine new zones across the state. In each zone, two divisions have been included for “more tight clasp” on local leaders and party cadres. In every zone there would be four senior party leaders looking after the interest of the party. Some party leaders disclosed that Mayawati has got down to micro-management of the party cadres keeping in mind the 2017 state assembly.

BSP supremo is believed to be planning an overhaul of the party so as to ensure that the migration of the Dalit vote bank to the BJP does not take place as also the party’s organizational structure is strengthened.

Under the new hierarchy, Kanpur and Lucknow have been merged into one zone and former minister and legislator Inderjeet Saroj and Ashok Siddhartha have been assigned the task of coordinating party work. Close aide and former minister RK Chowdhary will take care of Allahabad and Mirzapur. LUCKNOW: In the name of memorial for late Prime Minister Charan Singh, various political parties are coming together to face the challenge from BJP in Uttar Pradesh.

Much significance is being attached to Meerut rally on October 12 when Samajwadi party national president Mulayam Singh Yadav and his chief minister son Akhilesh Yadav and JD President Sharad Yadav could share same platform.

RLD leader and grandson of late Prime Minister Charan Singh, Ajit Singh, recently visited state capital and held long discussion with chief minister Akhilesh Yadav and extended invitation to him and his father Mulayam Singh Yadav to attended Meerut rally.

The political analysts feel that in the name of demanding memorial for Charan Singh, various farmer leaders, and all those who at one time worked with Charan Singh, are coming together.

It may be mentioned here that RLD is insisting that bungalow occupied by Ajit Singh and Charan Singh should be declared as memorial for Charan Singh who had been kisan leader.

RLD leaders, workers and farmers held demonstration in western UP and New Delhi to mount pressure on the BJP government at the centre to declare the bungalow a memorial.

The demand for setting up the memorial came only after BJP government asked Charan Singh’s son and RLD leader Ajit Singh to vacate the bungalow as he had been defeated in the Lok Sabha polls from Baghpat constituency.

In order to retain the bungalow the demand for setting up the memorial in the name of Charan Singh surfaced for the first time. People wonder why when Ajit Singh was part of central government then he could not have influenced it to achieve similar ends.

But the recent move of RLD leader Ajit Singh and his son Jayant Choudhry to seek support from Samajwadi Party, Congress, JD (U) is viewed as desperate move of RLD to regain its support base in Jat community which shifted to BJP in Lok Sabha polls.

It may be mentioned here that there was complete communal polarisation in western UP after series of communal riots last year and Jat community deserted RLD and voted for BJP.

Although Samajwadi Party did well in recently concluded by-polls when party won eight out of 11 assembly seats that went to polls, there was also a realisation that Samajwadi Party had no base in western UP.

There is a section in Congress Party which feels that it would be very difficult for the party to take on BJP on its own: so there was a felt need for broad understanding with left parties and Samajwadi Party.

SP has already declared its support for the memorial as well as is clamouring for a Bharat Ratna award for late Prime Minister Charan Singh.

Political analysts feel that the three-day national convention of Samajwadi Party in Lucknow from October 8 will discuss the issue formation of pressure group if likeminded parties join hands to take on challenge from BJP and BSP. Going by the past experience, the possibility of BSP and BJP coming together cannot be ruled in future.

Prominent political observer Surendra Rajput says that BSP is facing the worst ever crisis after the demise of founder Kansiram as Mayawati has failed to transfer her party votes to desired independents in recently concluded by-polls for 11 assembly and one Lok Sabha seats. BSP is also ready to surrender before BJP as a large number of Dalits shifted to saffron party during Lok Sabha polls. As a result, the BSP failed to open its account in Lok Sabha polls.

Under these circumstances, the Meerut rally of October 12 assumes great importance as it could pave way for regrouping of various political parties in UP where BJP swept the polls by taking 73 seats out of total 80 Lok Sabha seats. (IPA Service)

Mayawati is aware of the fact that her core voters have shifted to BJP in the name of making Narendra Modi PM and it would be difficult for her to get her voters back to BSP.

During her recent press conference, Mayawati had admitted that her dalit voters had shifted to BJP during Lok Sabha elections.

She warned dalits that they would lose their identity in BJP and asked them to be beware of grand design of saffron brigade.

Former chief minister Mayawati had said that since there would not be direct involvement of central election commission in the by-elections, her party would not waste energy in these elections.

The fact remains that these vacancies were created as 11 MLAs from BJP and one from Apna Dal had won to Lok Sabha and Mulayam Singh Yadav who had also won from Azamgarh Lok Sabha constituency vacated his Mainpuri seat.
