Nominations announced for Sheikh Zayed Book Award literature prize

ABU DHABI // The Sheikh Zayed Book Award has announced the 12 longlisted nominees for this year’s prize in literature.

The nominees for the Arabic language book prize were chosen from 274 entries, with the majority coming from Egypt, Syria, Morocco, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Iraq, UAE and Tunisia.

There were also entries from The Netherlands, Canada, Norway, the UK, Eritrea, Sweden, Australia and Belgium, reported state news agency Wam.

The nominated books include Khareef Al Baraa (The Autumn of Innocence) by Lebanese author Abbas Beydoun, An Tuhibbaka Jihan (To be Loved by Jihan) by Egyptian novelist Mekkawy Said, and Lubat Al Mighzal (The Spinning Wheel Game) by Haji Jabir of Eritrea.

In the previous weeks, the Sheikh Zayed Book Award announced its long lists for other categories, including contribution to development of nations, arts and literary criticism and children’s literature.
