Policemen jailed for fight outside Dubai nightclub

DUBAI // Two policemen were among five people jailed for three months for fighting at a nightclub in which two men were stabbed.

A 41-year-old Emirati officer was convicted of attempting to kill a Jordanian salesman, 30, and a Syrian marketing manager, 27, on February 19.

He denied the charges in Dubai Criminal Court.

He and an Emirati inspector, 35, were both convicted of assaulting the Jordanian and the Syrian, who, along with a 27-year-old Lebanese friend, were found guilty of assaulting the policemen.

Judge Fahad Al Shamsi offered them the chance to settle out of court but they declined.

The men got into an argument and started to fight at a club in the Capitol Hotel. Security guards were able to break them up, but the men clashed again outside.

The club’s head of security called for an ambulance and police, and the two injured men were taken to Rashid Hospital.

The court was told that the Jordanian’s injury could have been life-threatening without quick medical attention.

The Syrian victim said the officer punched him in the chest then stabbed him in his waist.
