ABU DHABI // Heavy fog engulfed the country again Thursday morning, causing traffic problems and flight diversions.
Twenty-nine flights were diverted from airports in Dubai and Sharjah to Fujairah in the past 48 hours.
Abu Dhabi Police warned motorists to drive carefully because of low visibility.
In Sharjah, the weather conditions caused long delays on Etihad and Mohammad bin Zayed roads into Dubai.
In Dubai, no accidents were reported, a contrast from Wednesday morning when 119 accidents occurred.
The fog is expected to continue on Thursday night and over the weekend.
Dubai Police urged people attending New Year’s celebrations in the city to leave plenty of time for travel and, if possible, to use public transport.
About 650,000 revellers are expected to flock to Downtown Dubai to usher in 2017.
