Leave it to Game of Thrones to play with our emotions.
HBO has released the first poster for the seventh season of Game of Thrones. The poster is typical GoT – cryptic and full of intrigue. The poster shows the series title and season against an icy background, but beneath this ice are fiery flames. With a simple poster, the show can be hinting about the general plot of the season. Fan theories exploded at the conclusion of season 6; the upcoming season may finally confirm these.
Game of Thrones season 7 is currently under production. Season 6 ended in June 2016 and it drew universal acclaim from critics and fans alike.
A Poster Of Ice And Fire
HBO revealed the teaser poster during the South By South West event this week. The poster shows “#GoTS7” and the HBO logo, but no other details like the release date are included – just the ice-and-fire background.
To fans of the series, the meanings behind the imagery could not be any clearer. It only confirms what everyone has been talking about.
One, it hints at the forthcoming war between the humans and the White Walkers. The cold undead – read: “ice” – are preparing to march down toward the North Wall. The inevitable clash against the humans – read: “fire” – will likely commence in the seventh season.
The second meaning is everyone’s favorite: Jon Snow, who at the season finale was revealed to be the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen, making him a Targaryen and heir to the throne, will finally meet Daenerys, the supposed last Targaryen. Jon Snow of the wintry north represents ice, while Daenerys, the Mother of Dragons, represents fire. Back in October last year, images of the filming were leaked showing Daenerys and Jon Snow meeting each other.
Jon Snow, after winning against the traitorous Boltons, has been proclaimed King in the North. He is currently preparing his forces to defend against the attack of the White Walkers. Across Westeros to the East, Daenerys is amassing her forces as well. She is preparing to cross the sea to bring her forces and dragons to invade Westeros.
Winter-filled Season Coming This Summer
The most noticeable missing detail in the poster was the premiere date. The production has been delayed because of the lack of winter, which is essential to the season’s plot. HBO just said the show will premiere sometime in the summer.
