DUBAI // Environment watchdogs prevented 19 tankers carrying hazardous waste from emptying their contents in a water-treatment plant.

Mohammed Al Blooshi, head of the Environmental Emergencies Office at Dubai Municipality, said the tankers were carrying waste collected from other tankers to dispose in sewage-treatment plants.

Disposal of hazardous chemicals in the wrong treatment plant is an offence and could have led to a disruption in operations, Mr Al Blooshi said.

He said several tankers were caught randomly disposing of their waste, polluting the environment, reported Aletihad, the Arabic-language sister newspaper of The National.
