One of India’s biggest political stars, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayaram Jayalalithaa died Monday after a long illness.

The actress-turned-politician was revered by her supporters and she had a colorful political life which was watched closely even by those outside the community of people that called her Amma or mother.
