I analyzed several companies balance sheets and selected 4 I thought were good. Took balance sheets to my broker, Paine Webber (now gone), and the rep tossed them in the waste basket. The message was you can’t trust those documents. He recommended mutual funds. My money was small potatoes so he was right. Mutuals usually are well diversified.
