Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT) has announced that on it recently set a new daily record by handling 5 million containers, a milestone achievement for Khalifa Port Container Terminal (KPCT).
The record number was achieved on October 28 serving the CMA CGM, a vessel belonging to ADT’s long-term customer, CMA CGM Pegasus.
The new throughput milestone follows terminal operator ADT’s success in the first half of 2016, which saw Khalifa Port handle 11 percent more containers than the same period in 2015.
Bolstered by rapid growth in polymer exports and transhipment activity across the Gulf, 699,776 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) were handled in the first six months of 2016, up from 629,941 TEUs in the same period of 2015.
Abu Dhabi Terminals CEO, Martijn van De Linde, said: “This milestone represents a great achievement in KPCT’s relatively short operational period and truly demonstrates that ADT is on track to become one of the leading container terminal operators in the world.
“We pride ourselves on our commitment to our loyal customers and they share in our success and we will continue to strive to exceed their expectations going forward,” he added.
The amount of new land leased in Khalifa Industrial Zone by the end of June was over 1.5 million square metres, 50 percent up on the year-earlier period.
