AI-driven Deal Platform Claira Secures $7 Million Seed Backing

Claira, a New York–based deal intelligence platform, has closed a $7 million seed funding round co-led by Barclays and Citi, alongside Reimagine Tech Ventures. Additional backing came from Activant Capital, KDX and OPCO Ventures.

Claira’s platform integrates domain-native artificial intelligence directly into deal workflows, enabling banks, private-credit funds and financial institutions to speed up due diligence, unlock historical deal insights and scale decision‑making processes. Founder and chief executive Eric Chang emphasised that “firms are sitting on a trove of proprietary research which they are not leveraging,” asserting that Claira streamlines workflows while embedding institutional investment knowledge into future transactions.

Barclays’ head of US Principal Investments, Kester Keating, noted the firm’s enthusiasm for backing a solution automating long‑standing manual steps in financial deal-making. Meanwhile, Neil Agarwal of OPCO Ventures described Claira as “uniquely positioned to build foundational technology for the next generation of financial infrastructure,” citing its ability to deploy agentic AI, automate workflows and cut through complexity.

Claira intends to channel the new capital into expanding its engineering and go‑to‑market teams, deepening strategic partnerships with financial institutions and enhancing its AI capabilities tailored to capital‑markets dynamics.

Set up to transform private-credit and institutional investment practices, Claira has identified a persistent shortfall in how financial firms manage deal knowledge. Their platform aims to centralise deal analysis, enabling users to quickly access historical information and predictive insights—ultimately shifting focus to higher‑conviction opportunities.

Key investors believe this fundraise reflects both confidence in Claira’s technology and the shifting priorities within financial services. Barclays and Citi’s leadership of the round signals a growing embrace of AI‑powered tools that streamline complex deal tasks. Reimagine Tech Ventures, along with Activant, KDX and OPCO, joins in underscoring the momentum behind advanced, specialist financial‑services software.

Claira has entered a competitive field populated by emerging platforms targeting the private markets. Its differentiator lies in applying AI to synthesise institutional memory—contextualising comparable deals, risk profiles and operational metrics in a more integrated way than generic M&A databases or productivity tools.

On the engineering front, the firm is reportedly building out natural‑language processing and machine‑learning modules designed to interpret unstructured data from term sheets, memos and internal research. Sales growth is expected to follow, as adoption increases among mid‑tier banks and specialist credit providers looking to heighten efficiency while preserving human oversight.

Though still in early stages, Claira’s momentum comes amid broader sector interest in deal intelligence and AI‑driven decision‑support systems. Macro headwinds in private credit, including tighter spreads and operational complexity, have intensified demand for platforms that offer speed, consistency and institutional insight aggregation.

Operationally, Claira faces the challenge of securing traction across major financial institutions. Scaling AI solutions in regulated environments demands rigorous data security, compliance alignment and internal stakeholder buy‑in. However, support from Barclays and Citi—including potential access to pilot customers—offers a significant runway.

Eric Chang and his executive team plan to use the infusion to recruit additional AI engineers, deepen integration with client systems and accelerate global expansion. The startup is also exploring partnerships with data providers and third‑party research platforms to broaden its knowledge base.
