The UAE’s Ambassador to Pakistan made an inspection visit to review the construction of a Dh398 million military hospital being jointly run by the two countries, Wam, the state news agency, reported.
Eissa Al Nuaimi toured the 1,000 bed Pakistani-Emirati Military Hospital that is being built following a directive by President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed as part of the UAE Pakistan Assistance Programme.
Once completed, the 115,000 square metre hospital will treat up to 6,000 outpatients per day, or two million a year, with up to 50 surgeries daily in 16 operating theatres.
Dedicated wards include emergency, orthopaedics, gynaecology, maternity, internal medicine and dermatology. There will also be a laboratory and a pharmacy.
After a partial launch in October last year, an average of 5,000 outpatients have been served every day.
The hospital, which boasts state-of-the-art equipment, is among the biggest and most important health projects in Pakistan, said Mr Al Nuaimi.
The integrated medical city can also provide training for students, the ambassador said.
Abdullah Al Ghafli, director of the UAE Pakistan Assistance Programme, provided Mr Al Nuaimi with a briefing on the progress of construction, the wards, types of equipment and electronic systems used in the hospital.
