DUBAI // A cleaner murdered his supervisor’s niece by stabbing her to the neck at her flat after he had problems breaking his work contract.

The Filipino, 32, has been jailed for 15 years for the murder, which took place on August 7 last year.

He had been told to pay Dh6,000 to his company for submitting his resignation and breaking his contract early, and tried to persuade his supervisor to talk to HR about it.

“I wanted her help to convince human resources at work to spare me paying Dh6,000 as a penalty for submitting my resignation,” the cleaner said.

“I didn’t know what happened but I didn’t mean to end her life.”

The Filipina niece let him into her flat and, when he asked for his supervisor, she said her aunt was not home.

He lost his temper, rushed to the kitchen, grabbed a knife and stabbed the woman in her neck after they argued, prosecutors said.

He then went to his brother’s house and told him and his wife that they must call police because he had killed someone.

“It was about 5.30pm when he came,” the brother said. “He was in shock and screaming that he killed someone and urging me to call police. I went to my wife and told her to call police, which she did.”

The brother said the killer kept repeating, “Please don’t blame me, I don’t know what I have done.”

“We apprehended him then went to the crime scene,” a police officer told Dubai Criminal Court. “The woman was dead on the floor with the knife stuck in her neck.”

The cleaner was on Sunday found guilty of premeditated murder, and will be deported after serving his sentence.
