Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Ab Rahman allowed the application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to extend the remand of the two men for three days until Feb 3.

Three men who were previously arrested, were released on MACC bail with one surety, today.

“One of the three, a 38-year-old man, was released with a RM20,000 bail with deposit and RM200,000 without deposit.

“The other two, a 30-year-old and a 33-year-old, were released on a RM100,000 bail,” an MACC spokesman said.

The remand order of seven days for the five men to facilitate the investigation into the alleged misappropriation, ended today.

It was reported that the five were believed to be tied to a sturgeon fish breeding technology transfer project worth about USD$10 million (RM47.6mil).

They were picked up at several locations in the Klang Valley on Jan 24 under an operation codenamed ‘Op Caviar’.

The five men, clad in orange lockup attire were handcuffed when they arrived at the magistrate’s court here at 9.30am

They were investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009, which carries a fine of at least five times the amount of corruption, and a maximum 20 years’ imprisonment, upon conviction.

According to an MACC source, the five men were believed to have abused their positions for their own interests.
