Drug mule caught at Dubai airport with 850 grams of heroin in stomach

DUBAI // A Pakistani drug mule said he was promised 200,000 rupees (Dh7,444) for bringing 850 grams of heroin into the country in his stomach.

However, AS, 26, was apprehended after an official at Dubai International Airport noticed his agitated state.

Emirati inspector JA, 30, noticed the man at the airport on February 12.

“I requested to see the defendant’s passport and asked him if he had any illegal substances with him,” said the inspector. “The defendant replied that he didn’t have anything to hide.”

The Pakistani was searched but nothing untoward was found so an X-ray machine was used and it discovered unusual objects in his stomach.

AS then admitted to having drugs and the inspector turned him over to police.

At Dubai Criminal Court on Thursday, the defendant pleaded guilty to the charge of drug trafficking and told the judge that he was promised to be given 200,000 rupees upon his return to Pakistan if he delivered the drugs to an individual in the UAE.

The next hearing is set for June 15.
