ABU DHABI // Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, has said the declaration of 2017 as the Year of Giving would show that the UAE was nation of “charity and peace”.
Sheikh Hamdan called for government departments to coordinate with each other to back the campaign, which he said would solidify the UAE’s position as a leading supporter of humanitarian causes and charity.
“The UAE wants, through this message, to reaffirm the humanitarian approach it has adopted for decades to help people in need, spread hope and ensure the happiness of people everywhere,” he said.
Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, Ruler of Umm Al Quwain, also offered his support for the Year of Giving, the state news agency Wam reported.
He said the initiative was following the path of charity established by the Founding President, Sheikh Zayed.
Sheikh Saud said that the UAE would continue to promote charity work as it promoted the values of loyalty, responsibility and volunteerism.
