Police in Dubai have warned against reckless driving in wet weather after the arrest of a young Emirati filmed performing stunts in City Walk over the weekend.

A video of the young man driving in circles at speed, known as ‘doughnuts’, just metres from pedestrians after heavy rain on Saturday was posted on social media and has been viewed thousands of times.

The incident was reported and Dubai Police traffic department has since arrested the man, and confiscated his 4×4 vehicle.

One video, that lasts about 45 seconds, shows the man driving erratically through standing water and bringing surrounding traffic to a standstill, as pedestrians including young children run for cover. He then drives off, with two passengers also in the vehicle.

Police said the driver can expect to face charges and a Dh100,000 fee to recover his car.

Many roads and intersections were flooded on Saturday after heavy overnight rain.
