DUBAI // The RTA has prepared a traffic plan for New Year’s Eve – a night usually plagued by heavy congestion, particularly in the area surrounding the Burj Khalifa.
Burj Khalifa Metro Station will be closed from 10pm until the end of celebrations while services to main metro stations in the area (including DIFC Station and Danube Station) will be uninterrupted.
Col Mohammed Al Bastaki, director of Dubai Police’s Transportation Security Administration, said preparations began early by reviewing last year’s reports, which indicated high population density areas, and discussing anticipated challenges.
He said the plan ensured the highest levels of security, particularly on Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram, that are used by hundreds of thousands of passengers heading to the Burj Khalifa area and Downtown Dubai.
Public transport will be available throughout the evening, with an increased police presence at metro stations to ensure security.
Col Al Bastaki urged the public to use public transport rather than private vehicles.
