More than 1,600 parking bays have been opened by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai to ease congestion for visitors.
The parking slots have been provided on both sides of the Dubai Water Canal, which opened earlier this month, the transport authority said in a statement.
Maitha bin Adai, CEO of Traffic & Roads Agency, RTA, said: “The RTA has provided 1,602 additional parking slots in several areas along the two sides of the Canal. 652 parking slots bearing the Code G were provided at the Business Bay district, and 628 parking slots were allocated beneath the bridge of Sheikh Zayed Road & at Safa Park, in addition to 322 parking slots within the Dubai Water Canal bearing the Code A.
“RTA allows the use of seasonal parking cards within the area of the Dubai Water Canal (Code A) whereas seasonal parking cards are not accepted for use in the parking lots of the Business Bay bearing Code G.
“The Dubai Water Canal is shaping into one of the tourist attractions for residents, visitors and tourists in Dubai; which requires the provision of key infrastructure, such as parking slots as they help turn the area into a tourist attraction.”
Dubai Water Canal is expected to attract more than 30 million visitors per annum, the RTA said earlier this month.
The number of riders using marine transit modes ferrying the canal is expected to top one million per annum by 2020, and the number of riders will increase to four million by 2030.
