E-commerce Giant Teams Up with United Arab Emirates for Sustainable Deliveries

Amazon is revving up its sustainability efforts in the Middle East by collaborating with authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to launch an electric vehicle (EV) delivery fleet. This initiative aligns with the UAE’s push for a greener transportation sector and complements Amazon’s global commitment to reduce its environmental footprint.

Prashant Saran, a senior executive overseeing operations in Amazon Turkey, Middle East and Africa, revealed the company’s close coordination with UAE officials to expedite the deployment of the EV fleet. While details regarding the exact number and type of vehicles are yet to be finalized, Saran emphasized that the project is ongoing and involves continuous piloting and testing.

This move by Amazon isn’t entirely new. The company has already begun experimenting with EVs for deliveries across various regions, including the United States, the European Union, and India. Their test fleet encompasses over 15 different EV models, ranging from delivery vans to e-cargo bikes and e-rickshaws. This comprehensive testing approach allows Amazon to gather valuable insights and determine the most suitable solutions for diverse geographical contexts.
