ABU DHABI // The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has offered food aid to the inhabitants of Al Mokha town in Yemen, in line with its efforts to provide sustained humanitarian aid to the country’s people.
ERC delivered 3,000 food parcels, including basic food items, to the town’s people.
The beneficiaries thanked the UAE leadership, government and the people, as well as the ERC, for their efforts in meeting the needs of the Yemeni people and normalising their life.
With the delivery of this aid, the number of food parcels dispatched so far by the ERC to Al Mokha and the western coast reached 27,000 parcels. The town was recently liberated by pro-government forces, forcing Houthi fighters to flee.
Last month, the Yemeni Ambassador to the UAE, Fahad Al Menhali, said the UAE’s initiatives in the country were making a difference in its development and reconstruction. “They have enabled fast-paced improvement in the humanitarian situation in areas liberated from the rebels, he said at the time. “By all measures, the response of the ERC to the humanitarian situation in Yemen exceeded all expectations. It was effective in returning life to normal after the crisis.”
The ERC’s humanitarian operations are focused on relief, healthcare and education, and its presence in the areas that saw the most development has earned it a prominent place among humanitarian agencies operating in the country, he further added.
Dr Hamdan Al Mazrouei, chairman of the Board of the ERC, said at the time that the UAE, led by President Sheikh Khalifa, prioritised the humanitarian cause of the Yemeni people, based on the humanitarian approach of the founder of the UAE, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who “spared no effort” to back the Yemeni people in all circumstances.
