For His Electoral Gains, Biden Is Pushing US Towards A Global War

By Arun Srivastava

Rightist forces do not empathise with the human and humanity. Humanitarian emotions and sensibilities have been unknown commodities for them. Hitler crushed the humanity and the worst victims of his tyrannies were the Jew. It is ironical that now the same Jews are perpetrating the worst kind of torture on the Muslims of Gaza and Palestine.

RSS and BJP, which felt hurt at the killings of the Jew, precisely the Zionists, expressed their solidarity with them the very next day of the Hamas attack, but they continued to behave like a mute and passive spectator to the killings of Kukis in Manipur by Hindu bigots.

Modi had promised to extend all kind of support to Israel just the next day of the Hamas attack. His offer gave the impression that probably he could not comprehend the quantum of the human loss due to the Israeli attack on Palestinians. Now in a late realisation, only on Wednesday, in a significant shift from his previous stand, expressed shock at human loss in Gaza and said that those involved would be held responsible. His statement nevertheless does not make any sense as US President Joe Biden has extended his moral support to Netanyahu.

In a massive explosion at the al-Ahli hospital in Gaza, hundreds of people were killed on Tuesday. Modi as the head of Indian government should have realised that Israel was not attacking Palestine with toy bombs. Netanyahu’s intention was simple, finish the Palestinians. It is really surprising how could Modi, whose disciples (Bhakts) project him as the Vishwa Guru, could not look into this aspect. To maintain his hegemony, Netanyahu is left with no other alternative but to finish Palestine.

Nonetheless, the right-wing Netanyahu is facing a serious challenge from the Israelis themselves. As per reports, at least more than half of Israeli population do not endorse his brand of politics. They even hit the streets against his aggression. They even demanded his resignation. For his survival, Netanyahu is dependent on the support of Biden.

Netanyahu’s moderate retreat is echoed in US President Joe Biden telling the world that the hospital strike on Gaza was ‘done by other team’, not Netanyahu. Biden was simply trying to shield Netanyahu. The question that haunts the global fraternity is what made Biden to come out with the clarification and passing the buck to others, even before Netanyahu confessed of the dastardly Israeli act.

Biden’s brazen caressing of Netanyahu has enraged the entire Middle East.  The intensity of the fury and anger towards America, especially to Biden, could be assessed from the observation of Egypt’s, President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, who claimed that Jews in his country had never experienced persecution and suggested that the United States was more shocked by the killing of Israelis than decades of Palestinian oppression.

Biden’s defence of Netanyahu has been widely condemned in the Middle East and people perceive the observation of Biden as a shrewd move to humiliate and punish the Palestinians. The people tend to believe that US president’s support to Netanyahu has virtually provided extra strength and validity to Hamas.

Many Arabs view the U.S. government as not only being indifferent to the agony of Palestinians living under Israeli occupation, but also complicit in it. Former foreign minister of Egypt Nabil Fahmy said: “There is tremendous anger in the Arab world, even by those who do not support Hamas. They are giving Israel a green light and as this gets increasingly bloody, the West will have blood on its hands.” The anger of the people is so intense that they have hit the streets across Middle East with the slogan, “Death to America”.

People question why the US is denying occupation to Palestinians when it is against occupation in Ukraine. Biden’s observation is being viewed as a go-ahead signal to Netanyahu. Incidentally, the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the de facto ruler of Saudi Arabia, told US Foreign Secretary Antony Blinken that Israel must lift its siege on Gaza. He also made it clear that Saudi Arabia “rejects the destruction of infrastructure and vital services that affect their daily lives.”

Though the Muslim countries were not prompt in decrying Israeli act and hesitant in pledging their support to Palestine, one thing was absolutely clear that they did not agree to sail with Netanyahu’s rightist cruise. They had looked through the rightist design. Riding on the back of Netanyahu they were out to finish the Muslims. It is quite significant that after his meeting with Netanyahu, Biden was to travel to Jordan for meetings with Arab leaders. But that stop was cancelled in view of strike on the hospital, which Palestinian officials blamed on Israel.

To salvage the situation and provide an escape route to Netanyahu, Biden was putting the blame some “others”. If what Biden says is right, then why he is asking Netanyahu to refrain from attacking Palestinians. Little doubt hospital blast has exposed the rightist design. The world was looking with curiosity towards Biden whether he would identify Palestinians directly instead of using the word “others” for them.

However, the reports underline that before Biden left for Israel, the US government had not yet drawn a conclusion about the source of the rocket strike on the hospital. Officials have not said if the government has collected any intelligence beyond the information provided by the Israelis. Biden identified with Israel by saying; “Americans are grieving with you, they really are. And Americans are worried.”

If Biden was really serious about isolating Hamas terrorists, he should have talked to Palestinian government to evolve a mechanism and bring the war to a halt. Instead he blessed Netanyahu. What does it imply? There is no denying the fact that aided by western governments, Israeli destruction continues. More than 5000 Palestinians have been killed on the plea of fighting Hamas terrorist. Raz Segal, Israeli historian, professor of Holocaust and genocide studies at Stockton University, says it is “a textbook case of genocide”, and that Israel has been explicit about what it’s carrying out in Gaza.

UN chief Antonio Gueterres, while calling upon Hamas to immediately release all hostages without conditions, said, “In this dramatic moment, as we are on the verge of the abyss in the Middle East, it is my duty as Secretary-General of the United Nations to make two strong humanitarian appeals”. But it appears that his appeal has failed to make impact on Biden. Guterres even sounded a dire warning, saying: “Gaza is running out of water, electricity and other essential supplies. UN has stocks available of food, water, non-food items, medical supplies and fuel, located in Egypt, Jordan, the West Bank and Israel and these goods can be dispatched within hours. To ensure delivery, our selfless staff on the ground, along with NGO partners, need to be able to bring these supplies into and throughout Gaza safely, and without impediment to deliver to those in need.”

Killing the people by denying them food and water is the rightist design. Israel has been ruthlessly using this prohibited war crime. It is really shocking how India refused to condemn this act of Israel.

Biden should have realised that his moral booster to Netanyahu would damage the case of Israel. Large number of civilian deaths, by denying them food, water and medical care would simply damage Israel’s case of presenting itself as the victim of the Hamas’ wrongs. It is an open secret that Israel is the occupying power in Gaza, the West Bank, Sinai, East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights. Israel has been continuously targeting Palestine without any inhibition.

In all fairness, Biden instead of patting Netanyahu, who has even lost the faith of his own countrymen, should have told the Israeli leader in clear words to adopt a realistic approach to the vexed issue. No doubt Hamas is a terrorist outfit but the reasons which propelled it to carry out October 7 attack ought to be analysed in right perspective.  Every action has an equal and opposite reaction and certainly Israel’s attack on Palestine, specifically on Gaza, does not respond to the axiom.

There is no denying the fact that Indian diplomacy in this particular case has been badly exposed. Modi and his government officials endorsing Israel’s line primarily owes to RSS nursing a soft attitude towards Israel and erroneously perceiving Zionism as the fraternal twin of Hindutva, by virtue of both embodying supremacist religious fundamentalism as political ideologies. There is one more reason. The Chitpawan Brahmans who virtually control RSS have their ancestral relations with the Jews.

In his quest to project Netanyahu as the world leader of the rightist forces, Biden conveniently forgot the basic thing that if he allows Netanyahu to have his way of exacting a huge price from Hamas or Palestinians, he would be pushing the world on the threshold of global disaster. Already some Muslim countries have joined the battle, though yet not in full scale. Some Muslim countries are waiting for Israel’s next action. Israel must not test the perseverance of the Palestinians who have suffered a lot during last 15 years. (IPA Service)
