The second Global Mentoring Walk, held in celebration of International Women’s Day, will give women in the UAE a chance to discuss the opportunities and challenges of entrepreneurship in the region.
The event – organised by Mompreneurs Middle East – will be held on March 11, 2017, from 7am to 11am at Dubai Polo and Equestrian Club, Arabian Ranches.
The annual Global Mentoring Walk brings together established women leaders and emerging women leaders to discuss their professional challenges and successes and establish a mentoring relationship while talking a walk together.
In 2016, more than 14,000 women participated in 86 walks in more than 55 countries.
Geraldine Laybourne, founder and former CEO of Oxygen Media, launched the initiative in 2008 to empower young women professionals in the United States.
Due to her busy schedule, Laybourne did not always have time to meet with the young women who wanted her advice. Instead, she invited them to join her on her morning walks. Soon, she was scheduling young women each day to walk with her. Seeing the power and success of this simple formula, she organised walks in key US cities to highlight the importance of mentoring and to provide access to some of the country’s smartest, most successful women.
It is organised in cooperation with Vital Voices, a US-based NGO that trains emerging women leaders and social entrepreneurs around the globe.
Last year, Mompreneurs Middle East organised the first Global Mentoring Walk in Dubai in partnership with Reach Mentoring and Dubai Business Women Council, when 70 mentors and mentees spent their morning at Dubai Polo and Equestrian Club to discuss entrepreneurship and leadership opportunities in the region.
