H5 Data Centers and DE-CIX Forge Partnership to Enhance San Antonio’s Digital Connectivity

H5 Data Centers, a prominent wholesale data center operator, has announced a strategic partnership with DE-CIX, the world’s leading neutral Internet Exchange operator, to enhance digital connectivity in San Antonio. This collaboration designates the San Antonio Internet Exchange as the inaugural participant in DE-CIX’s Turnkey Connectivity Partner program, enabling seamless and low-latency connections between San Antonio and Dallas without the need for third-party transport solutions or additional cross-connect fees.

Josh Simms, CEO and owner of H5 Data Centers, highlighted the significance of this development: “Our partnership with DE-CIX brings a new turnkey solution to the San Antonio market. This enables networks in San Antonio to enjoy low-latency connectivity with major content providers in Dallas while simplifying the peering process.”

San Antonio, situated approximately 275 miles from Dallas, will now have direct access to DE-CIX Dallas, Texas’s premier peering platform. Despite the geographical distance, this connection offers the lowest latency for accessing a majority of content networks across the state. Ed d’Agostino, Vice President of DE-CIX North America, emphasized the broader impact: “We’re excited to be supporting regional, non-DE-CIX exchanges, enhancing the availability of low-latency paths and lowering the cost to peer, all in an effort to close the digital divide.”

The partnership operates through H5 Data Centers’ 85,000-square-foot carrier hotel in downtown San Antonio, a major interconnection point for the San Antonio and Austin metropolitan areas. This facility provides access to over 35 communication carriers and has recently expanded to include new colocation space, increased power capacity, and additional network options.

Established in 2019, SAT-IX serves as a neutral Internet exchange at H5 Data Centers’ San Antonio campus. Its mission is to facilitate the peering of domestic and international Internet traffic in San Antonio and the broader South Texas region. The exchange supports 1G, 10G, and 100G port speeds, offering optional route server access for efficient peering.

This collaboration is poised to significantly benefit Internet Service Providers and content providers in San Antonio by providing direct access to a vast array of content networks. The result is faster and more reliable delivery of digital content to end-users. Additionally, SAT-IX offers diverse connections to multiple DE-CIX Dallas switches, ensuring full redundancy and increased resiliency for network paths.

H5 Data Centers, managing over 4 million square feet of data center space across 27 facilities in 22 markets, continues to demonstrate its commitment to delivering top-tier connectivity solutions. This partnership with DE-CIX further solidifies San Antonio’s position as a critical connectivity hub in Texas, offering unparalleled access to content networks and global Internet traffic.
