Jalapeno-Flavored Chips Recalled Over Salmonella Risks: Here Are The Products Affected : HEALTH : Tech Times

There have been several product recalls in April, especially for products that were contaminated by harmful bacteria, mislabeled, packaged with a foreign object (or life form), or present some form of danger to consumers regardless of proper usage. Now a well-loved snack brand just joined the list of companies that announced a product recall in April.

On April 21, Frito-Lay published a news release on its website to announce that it voluntarily recalls select jalapeño-flavored chips over possible salmonella contamination.

Product Recall Announcement

Frito-Lay explains in its announcement that the potential salmonella contamination may be present in the jalapeño seasoning powder of affected products. The company notes, however, that not all of its jalapeno-flavored chips are affected by the recall. In fact, the recall is just the company’s response to a recent recall by one of its seasoning suppliers.

“Although no Salmonella was found in the seasoning supplied to Frito-Lay, the company has decided to recall these products out of an abundance of caution,” Frito-Lay writes.

Affected consumers are those who recently purchased Jalapeño Flavored Lay’s Kettle Cooked potato chips and Jalapeño Flavored Miss Vickie’s Kettle Cooked potato chips so, if you’re one of them, take note of the listed products below.

Recalled Products

Frito-Lay reveals that the affected products were distributed throughout the United States via food service, retail stores, vending machines, and other channels. The list below contains the product names and what to look for in the packaging to determine if the snack you purchased is affected.

Individual packages with “Guaranteed fresh” date of JUL 4 or earlier

  • Jalapeño Flavored Miss Vickie’s Kettle Cooked potato chips (ALL Sizes)
  • Jalapeño Flavored Lay’s Kettle Cooked potato chips (ALL sizes)

Multipacks with a “use by” date of JUN 20 or prior containing individual packs with “Guaranteed fresh” date of JUL 4 or prior

  • Frito-Lay Bold Mix Sack (Pack of 20)
  • Lay’s Kettle Cooked Multipack Sack (Pack of 12)
  • Lay’s Kettle Cooked Multipack Tray (Pack of 30)
  • Miss Vickie’s Multipack Tray (Pack of 30)
  • Miss Vickie’s Multipack Box (Pack of 32)

Frito-Lay says that Jalapeño Cheddar Flavored Lay’s Kettle Cooked 40% Less Fat potato chips are not being recalled so it is safe to consume.

The company also emphasized that other flavors of Lay’s Kettle Cooked potato chips and Miss Vickie’s potato chips are not affected.

As of writing, Frito-Lay says that no illness related to its recalled products has been confirmed. The company also works with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ensure the products affected are pulled out of from the shelves and will no longer be sold.
