Following Uber’s first year of profitability since its 2019 IPO, CEO Dara Khosrowshahi has identified the Middle East as a key driver of the company’s long-term growth strategy. In an exclusive interview with The National’s Editor-in-Chief, Khosrowshahi emphasized Uber’s commitment to the region, highlighting its “leading” role in the company’s future plans.

Khosrowshahi underscored Uber’s focus on responsible expansion, stating, “We continue to build for the long term, but we do so in a disciplined way. ” This disciplined approach aligns with Uber’s global ambitions to retain its position as a leader in mobility innovation.

The Middle East’s significance to Uber’s future is underscored by Khosrowshahi’s description of it as “one of our leading regions. ” Dubai serves as the regional headquarters for Uber’s Middle East and Africa (MENA) operations, with a dedicated team of over 100 employees. This centralized hub reflects Uber’s commitment to cater to the specific needs and preferences of the region’s diverse markets.

Khosrowshahi elaborated on Uber’s approach, stating, “While we are a global company, we’re very local in nature in terms of how we practice our operations on the ground. ” This localization strategy ensures Uber remains adaptable and responsive to the unique dynamics of each market within the MENA region.

The CEO’s message serves as a reassurance to investors, both regionally and globally. Khosrowshahi emphasized Uber’s dedication to long-term, sustainable growth, achieved through disciplined expansion and continued innovation in mobility solutions.

This focus on the Middle East aligns with the region’s burgeoning ride-hailing market. According to a recent industry report, the MENA ride-hailing market is projected to reach a value of $18. 6 billion by 2025, indicating significant growth potential. Uber’s established presence and the 2019 acquisition of its regional competitor, Careem, position the company to capitalize on this expanding market.

Khosrowshahi’s interview underscores Uber’s strategic shift towards the Middle East. The region’s robust growth potential, coupled with Uber’s commitment to localization and responsible expansion, positions it as a critical driver of the company’s long-term success.
