Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is leading the charge for a third consecutive win for the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, set a target for a bigger victory than 2019. He said the saffron party needs to secure 50 percent of the vote next year.
“This time, the BJP needs to secure at least 50% of the total votes polled,” said Modi during the national BJP office-bearers meeting at the party’s headquarters in New Delhi on Friday. In the previous general elections, the BJP got 37.36 percent of the vote, winning a total of 303 seats.
Prime Minister Modi said the BJP will be able to score a more decisive win if it gets more than 50 percent of the vote. Asking his colleagues to take government-run schemes to the masses, he doled out instructions to keep the focus on four important areas: working for the cause of women, farmers, youth and the poor.
The prime minister said their welfare is what set this government apart from those who ruled in the past. “Poverty is the biggest caste in this country,” he told his party leaders.
Another important message from the PM was to stay focused on positive developments and not fall into the trap of “negative politics” played by the opposition. He said that kind of politics does not deserve attention and must be countered effectively. But, he also advised party leaders to keep a track of social media and find new as well as more innovative tools of communication, including using reels on Instagram, that attract the youth.
Modi reached the party headquarters in the evening and was in the meeting for close to four hours. During the meeting, he spoke for over an hour and a half. On the first day of the two-day meeting, BJP national president JP Nadda delivered the inaugural address while a presentation on ‘Dixit Bharat Sankalp Yatra’ and the feedback received was presented by general secretary Sunil Bansal.
On the second day of the meeting, special focus will be on the address and session by union home Minister Amit Shah, who will be present for the meeting the entire day.
