Another notice was served to the expelled TMC MP, Mahua Moitra by the Ministry of Urban Development regarding the official residence that she continues to occupy despite the expulsion.
This is the second notice that has been sent to the TMC MP by the Ministry in the last week. The Ministry has sought a reply from Moitra as to why she has not vacated the residence allotted to her as a Member of Parliament, asking her to appear before the Directorate Of Estates by January 16, 2024.
After being expelled from Parliament on December 8, 2023, Moitra was served a notice asking her to vacate the official residence, at 9B Telegraph Lane, till January 7, 2024.
Immediately after her expulsion from the Parliament, the Lok Sabha housing committee had written a letter to the MOUD to go ahead with the vacation request for Moitra’s residence since it was under the general pool quota.
Citing the rules, the Delhi High Court on the appeal of the TMC MP, had asked her to approach the DoE with the request to continue occupying the official bungalow.
The court while requesting Moitra to withdraw her petition, asked her to approach the DoE to see if she could be given such an extension, which is done in rare circumstances.
The court had also cited that all the due procedures of law would be followed, including giving the notice to the expelled MP, before proceeding with any eviction process.
Upon the complaint of her ex-boyfriend, Jai Ananth and BJP Lok Sabha MP, Nishikant Dubey, Mahua Moitra was served a show cause notice in connection with ‘cash for query’ scam.
Upon receiving the two complaints, the Lok Sabha Speaker had referred the matter to the ethics committee of Parliament. The ethics committee, in a detailed 500-page report, had recommended that Krishna Nagar MP be expelled.
