Musk Unveils Tesla Robot with Bold AI Ambitions

Tesla CEO Elon Musk presented the Optimus AI robot at a Tesla event, showcasing its capability to perform everyday tasks. The event, which was aimed at demonstrating the potential of advanced robotics, included a significant focus on AI-driven automation. Optimus, Tesla’s humanoid robot, performed several activities, including bartending, serving drinks to attendees.

This public display marks a new milestone in Tesla’s pursuit of humanoid robots that can assist with both household and industrial tasks. Musk, during the presentation, emphasized Optimus’ versatility, stating that the robot can be utilized in roles ranging from teaching to caregiving. He went as far as to suggest that future versions could help care for children, a bold claim that prompted mixed reactions from the audience.

Optimus, which has been in development for a few years, is expected to retail around ₹25 lakh ($30,000), making it one of the most expensive consumer robots on the market. The demonstration, however, raised questions about the actual autonomy of the robots on display. Some attendees noticed inconsistencies, suggesting that the robots might have been partially controlled by humans. Tesla has not addressed these concerns publicly but stands by the performance of the AI model powering the robots.
