DUBAI // About 98 per cent of Dubai residents — more than four million people — have proper health insurance coverage, Dubai Health Authority has revealed.

Humaid Al Qatami, chairman of the board and director-general of DHA, said this accomplishment adds to Dubai’s numerous achievements, making it one of the pioneers in health care field.

The Dubai Health Insurance Law No. 11 of 2013 was adopted under the directives Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai.

The Dubai Health Insurance Law, which came into effect in January 2014, makes every sponsor liable to provide insurance packages so that those with salaries under Dh4,000 receive adequate cover.

Dr Haidar Al Yousuf, director of health funding at DHA, said all insurance companies were working hard to cope with the companies and individuals seeking health insurance.

Dr Al Yousef expected that the rest of the residents who did not complete the procedures would do so before the deadline of this Saturday, December 31.
