DUBAI// A Polish manager was arrested in possession of heroin after an acquaintance informed police she was a drug user, a court has heard.
M A, 28, was arrested on May 13 this year as she left the Dubai Mall. She was charged with possessing 0.2 grams of heroin and also with consuming cocaine.
The Dubai Criminal Court heard police had been tipped off about her activities by another man who had been previously arrested on drugs charges.
K J, a police lieutenant, who led the inquiry, said: “This man gave us names of a number of people who consume cocaine and heroin and M A was among the names,” he said.
M A was kept under surveillance and a warrant was obtained for her arrest.
She was apprehended by police at Dubai Mall, then taken to her home in Jebel Ali.
When they arrived, K J said he asked her if she possessed any drugs, to which she denied having any. However, some heroin was found rapped in silver foil and hidden in M A’s make-up bag, said K J.
“She confessed then and said that a Sri Lankan man provided her with the heroin. She also said that she had consumed heroin and cocaine in her apartment at a party three days before her arrest,” said K J.
A urine test confirmed M A had drugs in her system.
At court on Wednesday, she confessed to the charges.
A verdict is expected on September 2.
