To multitudes, nothing beats the scare more than the one that he’ll be in the Lok Sabha in 2028 fighting yet another no-confidence motion and looking for yet another prime ministerial term. As if India’s electorate couldn’t have more of him. As if two Modi stints weren’t enough with another one waiting in the wings. Can the Opposition alliance ‘I.N.D.I.A’ put a stop to the rampaging Narendra Modi?
The fact is, the Opposition did not ask the electorate before casting I.N.D.I.A in the frame? Now that it’s in the fray, it should at least go the full length – promise to put up a game fight instead of giving Prime Minister Narendra Modi a platform to gloat and boast. The 37-38 minutes Rahul Gandhi got to waste Prime Minister Narendra Modi he wasted on wasting ‘Bharat Mata’, which is synonym for ‘I.N.D.I.A’. A better strategy would have been to let the Modi Government hang itself with the ‘Manipur’ noose.
Sometimes, the Congress disappoints and this was one time. Whoever mentors Rahul Gandhi, schools him in politics, should be dragged over the coals. A lot is happening and a lot is not happening that could be used to haul Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the coals. Modi should not have been given the ultimate platform to stage a recovery with slick talk.
And it’s not Manipur alone. Rule of law is a casualty everywhere. A whole bunch of eminent people have been giving Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath accolades for the ‘law & order’ in his state. But is Uttar Pradesh a paragon of rule of law? What about the daylight murder of a 30-year-old BJP leader, shot dead outside his home on Thursday?
Were the killings of gangster Atiq Ahmed, his brother and his son a waste of bullets? This young BJP leader who was shot dead Thursday wasn’t even ‘gangster’. And ‘lady don’ Atiq’s wife has vanished without a trace. The lawlessness in lawless Uttar Pradesh is a glaring example of the collapse of rule of law in Modi’s India for anybody to want any more of Modi rule.
Manipur is of course the ultimate example of the collapse of law and order. More Manipuri women are gathering courage to report rape. Modi’s third term will be more of Modi’s second term. And Modi’s fourth term would be more of Modi’s third term. Modi and the BJP have the people by the short hair. They are using “Hindu-Muslim” and a captive national media to the fullest to shortchange all sections of the electorate.
Imagine the situation in 2028, when Modi says he will be alive and kicking for a third no-confidence motion. What makes this man so confident? Does he know something that the Opposition doesn’t and the electorate don’t want to? Has his government discovered the secret formula for longevity? Will the friendly EVM come into play?
Rightly speaking, people should be raising ruckus, hitting the streets in righteous indignation on being told that a third and fourth Modi term is assured. All sorts of things can be read in the assertion. To more than half of India, a third Prime Minister Narendra Modi term is scary enough not to want a fourth Narendra Modi term.
Next, India will be bombarded with opinion polls and gimmicks like the ‘Mood of the Nation’ surveys. Social media is gearing up with more and more hit pieces on the Opposition I.N.D.I.A. Rightwing social media influencers are being courted with ‘ads’ and the government has an advantage over I.N.D.I.A. Anti-government SM influencers, most of them video-journalists pushed out of their regular jobs, are being investigated and trolled.
A third and fourth term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not for Modi to declare life-time rule, spoken of as if it will be a certainty. People should be wary, worried and angry. Is India an electoral democracy in name only? PM Modi and his party BJP appear to have only contempt for the voter. It is like the voter is not a thinking person.
Donald Trump once trumpeted that if he murdered somebody on 5th Avenue, Republicans will still vote for him. That brag got Trump the ‘Presidency’ and cost him the Presidency, too. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is due his share of voter boot. It is just a matter of time. Perhaps, he will know long before 2028!
Prime Minister Narendra Modi does not rely on mentors. After Sharad Pawar, Modi must be thinking there is no more Everest to climb. But Prime Minister Narendra Modi is afflicted with a deadly relapse of ‘I, Me, Myself’ syndrome and Modi fatigue has set in on huge chunks of the electorate, who are disillusioned with Modi rule. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ego will be the death of Modi’s ambition. (IPA Service)
