Qatar Airways flight makes emergency landing at Portuguese island

A Qatar Airways flight has made an emergency landing at a Portuguese island following severe turbulence.

According to passengers on board the flight QR708 from Washington to Doha, the Boeing 777 encountered the severe turbulence as it crossed the North Atlantic.

Reports on social media suggested that up to ten people were injured as the aircraft made a high speed descent.

The aircraft landed at Terceira Island, located in the Azores archipelago in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean.

Many passengers complained on social about the of a lack of food and water being given to some passengers.

In response, Qatar Airways’ official Twitter account said an aircraft has been dispatched to Azores to bring passengers on QR708 to Doha.

A second tweet said: “We’re securing hotels and visas for #QR708 passengers who require it and will rebook to their final destination.”
