Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 Edge Android 7.0 Nougat Release Begins: Note 5, A, J Series And Tab Delayed?

The release of the Android 7.0 Nougat update for Samsung’s former flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge had been delayed according to an official announcement from Samsung, but now appears to be rolling out. Owners of other Samsung devices expected to receive the update, the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy A, J series and Galaxy Tab, are now wondering how the S6 delay will affect their expected upcoming updates.

Android 7.0 Update For Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 Edge Officially Postponed, Now Rolling Out

Recently, we brought you the news that Samsung had published an official timeline, with exact dates, for the release of Android 7.0 Nougat to a slew of the company’s devices, including the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge. Although the release dates were specific to Samsung’s Turkish arm, they gave an excellent idea of when Samsung device owners could expect to begin receiving Android 7.0 Nougat in other territories as well.

The date given for the release of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge was Feb. 27, but when that date came and went, a series of tweets from Samsung’s UK arm offered an official explanation as to why.

“The software update for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge has been delayed while we review its quality,” reads the tweet from Samsung UK. The new software version will be made available at the earliest opportunity. Samsung remains committed to providing the highest quality software and apologizes for the delay.”

Now it appears that the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge Android 7.0 Nougat is finally rolling out in various European territories, including the UK, Switzerland, Germany and Italy. The delayed release poses a larger issue, however, which is whether the previously announced timeline for the other devices on Samsung’s upgrade list will be pushed back.

Android 7.0 Nougat Upgrade Delay For Galaxy Note 5, A, J Series, And Tab?

So far, the complete list of Samsung devices confirmed to be receiving Android 7.0 Nougat is as follows: Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy S7 Active, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge and S6 edge+, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy Tab A with S Pen, Galaxy Tab S2 (LTE unlock), Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5, Galaxy A7, Galaxy A8, Galaxy J5, Galaxy J7, Galaxy On7 and Galaxy J7 Prime.

The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge are well into their worldwide rollout, and all four U.S. carriers have already pushed out their versions of the software to their customers. With the recent delay for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, there is a likelihood that there may be a ripple effect with the other devices on the list. Since each version of the software is unique to each device, the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge “quality issues” should not necessarily affect the other Samsung devices, but the manpower that was devoted to the quality review and any subsequent adjustments may somewhat delay the development of the Android 7.0 Nougat software updates for the older, non-flagship devices.

We’ll continue to bring you the latest on the Android 7.0 Nougat software upgrade for all Samsung devices as it emerges.
