SHARJAH // Forty-two playground rides have been installed as part of a plan to provide more facilities on the Khor Fakkan Corniche.

Ghada Ali, 33, an Egyptian mother of two, said she was “excited and happy” about the new equipment. “This Corniche is our favourite place during the holidays and weekends,” she said.

“We live in an apartment and it’s very important for the kids to have a place where they can play and release the energy, that’s why we like coming here and the kids love it.”

The upgrade included the installation of new street lights, which visitor Aysha Al Naqbi, 27, said made her feel more secure at night.

“It gives you a feeling of safety when there is more light in the area” she said.

“They did a great job, but I still think that the area needs more facilities and services because the number of visitors from other emirates increases each year.”

Fawia Al Qadi, director of Khor Fakkan Municipality, said the new equipment on the Corniche was part of a plan to improve playgrounds in the area.

She said 120 pieces of equipment, 60 lampposts and 70 noticeboards had been added in the past six months.

She said fitness equipment would soon be added to the Corniche.

“Upgrading Khor Fakkan leisure facilities is an ongoing plan as we aim at covering visitors’ needs and be able to welcome more visitors in future,” she said.
