Sharjah // Police agreed more than Dh345 million worth of financial disputes in out-of-court settlements in 2016.

They were made through a reconciliation initiative, led by the police customer service department, in order to avoid expensive and lengthy court cases.

In total, resolution was found in cases where Dh345.8m was outstanding.

Lt Colonel Yousuf Harmoul, acting director of the comprehensive police stations department, said resolutions contributed to social stability.

“The initiative was in line with the objective of the Ministry of Interior that calls for enhancing customers’ confidence in public services,” he said.

The initiative allowed people involved in financial disputes, including cases of bounced cheques, to settle out of court, he said.

“Those who issued such cheques were permitted to pay the amount at the police stations before referring a case to the court,” he said.
