Shepherd broke leg of countryman with an iron bar in farmyard row

DUBAI // A 22-year-old Pakistani shepherd has admitted to breaking his compatriot’s leg and leaving him with a five per cent permanent disability, Dubai Criminal Court heard on Thursday.

He confessed to a physical assault charge relating to the incident on March 12, when he had a fight with his countryman at a farm in Al Marmoum.

“He pushed me and I fell then he left the room but only to return about three minutes later with an iron bar in his hand,” said the 36-year-old victim, who added that his attacker struck him with the bar three times on the head and a few times on both legs.

The injured man was taken to hospital and police were notified. When arrested, the defendant claimed he was attacked and injured by the victim and that he only acted in self-defence. But upon examination, a medical report proved that his injuries were self-inflicted in a bid to avoid being charged.

No reason for the argument was given in court.

A verdict is expected on November 14.
