Shorooq joins billion-dollar AMI Labs funding

UAE-based venture capital firm Shorooq has joined a $1.03 billion funding round for French artificial intelligence startup AMI Labs, a company founded by prominent AI researcher Yann LeCun, as investors intensify backing for technologies designed to give machines a deeper understanding of the physical world.

The financing round also drew participation from technology and investment heavyweights including Nvidia, Temasek and entrepreneur Mark Cuban, pushing the company’s valuation to roughly $4.5 billion and signalling growing global confidence in a new generation of AI systems aimed at reasoning rather than merely predicting.

AMI Labs was established by LeCun, widely recognised for his pioneering work in deep learning and his role as chief AI scientist at Meta. The Paris-based company has set out to address one of the most persistent limitations in artificial intelligence: the ability to grasp cause-and-effect relationships and understand how the real world operates beyond statistical patterns in data.

Investors backing the round argue that such capabilities could transform the next wave of AI applications, allowing machines to reason about physical environments, anticipate consequences and perform complex decision-making tasks with greater reliability.
