Six months in jail for worker who stole signboards

DUBAI // An Indian worker will spend six months in jail after being convicted of stealing Dh10,000 worth of signboards and selling them on for Dh350.

Dubai Criminal Court was told that on August 24 this year the defendant, 27, waited until his workplace in Al Muraqqabat was empty before stealing 35 signboards along with some scaffolding and wood.

The incident was discovered the next morning by a supervisor.

“At 6.30am the next morning I arrived and found the items missing so I called police who arrived and checked the place. Then after investigating they informed me they suspected the defendant,” said the 47-year-old Egyptian.

The worker was arrested later that day and during questioning he confessed to stealing the items and selling them for Dh350.

The defendant confessed to a theft charge in court. He will be deported after serving his jail term.
