Top Rail Journeys to Embark on in 2025

As the allure of train travel experiences a resurgence, 2025 presents an array of exceptional rail journeys that promise both luxury and adventure. From traversing Europe’s scenic landscapes to exploring the vast deserts of the Middle East, these routes offer unparalleled experiences for discerning travellers.

The Orient Express La Dolce Vita is set to commence its inaugural journeys across Italy in April 2025. Travellers can anticipate itineraries that include coastal trips to Venice and Portofino, explorations through Tuscany’s renowned wine regions, and ventures into Sicily’s historic locales such as Palermo and Taormina. Onboard, guests will find 12 deluxe cabins and 18 suites, each adorned with intricate designs featuring wood-panelled ceilings and geometric textiles. Evenings will be marked by the “Grand Transformation,” where the train’s ambiance shifts to a more formal and festive atmosphere. Culinary offerings include aperitivo hours in the Lounge Bar, followed by dinners in the Dining Carriage, showcasing Italian cuisine crafted by a three-Michelin-starred chef.

In Saudi Arabia, the Dream of the Desert line is anticipated to launch by the end of 2025. This 41-cabin luxury train will journey nearly 800 miles from Riyadh to Al Qurayyat, near the Jordanian border. Passengers will traverse otherworldly desert landscapes, rugged mountain peaks, and notable sites such as the King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Royal Natural Reserve. Developed in collaboration with Italy’s Arsenale Group, known for projects like the Orient Express La Dolce Vita, the train’s design will reflect Saudi traditions, featuring upscale dining and lounge cars.

European Sleeper is introducing an overnight route from Brussels to Venice, catering to travellers seeking more affordable options. The train will make stops in Antwerp, Rotterdam, Utrecht, Munich, Cologne, Innsbruck, and Italian cities Verona and Bolzano, the latter serving as a gateway to the Dolomites. This route offers a practical and scenic alternative for those wishing to explore multiple European destinations in one journey.

For those desiring an extensive adventure, a luxury train journey spanning four continents and 12 countries is accepting reservations for 2025. This 59-day expedition offers travellers the opportunity to experience diverse cultures and landscapes, all from the comfort of a luxury train.

In the United States, Amtrak Vacations has highlighted several top rail journeys for 2025. Notable among them is the “Rails to the Grand Canyon” trip, departing from Los Angeles and culminating in Arizona. Travellers will enjoy an overnight Amtrak journey before arriving in Arizona, where they will be transported by rail to the Grand Canyon. The package includes a two-night stay near the South Rim, with guided tours and free time to explore one of America’s most iconic national parks.

The “Grand National Parks of the Southwest” is a 10-day adventure departing from Chicago. This journey traverses the famous California Zephyr and Texas Eagle routes, offering visits to six U.S. National Parks, including Utah’s Mighty 5—Arches, Canyonlands, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, and Zion—as well as the Grand Canyon in Arizona.
