UAE Bolsters Cooperation at Islamic Development Bank Meetings

The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) solidified its commitment to global development by actively participating in the 2024 Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group Annual Meetings held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The meetings, which coincided with the IsDB’s Golden Jubilee, brought together member states and development partners to discuss crucial issues facing the Islamic world.

High-level representatives from the UAE Ministry of Finance, including His Excellency Mohamed Al Hussaini, played a prominent role in the discussions. Mr. Al Hussaini emphasized the importance of the IsDB as a platform for fostering cooperation amongst member countries. He highlighted the UAE’s unwavering commitment to supporting developing nations, particularly Least Developed IsDB Member Countries (LDCs).

One key area of collaboration explored during the meetings was the Lives and Livelihoods Fund (LLF). This initiative, established in 2023 by the IsDB in partnership with the ADFD, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development (ISFD), aims to empower 32 member countries in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The recently launched LLF 2.0 builds upon this success, mobilizing resources to address critical issues like food security, healthcare, and community resilience.

The ADFD’s participation in the IsDB meetings extended beyond financial contributions. The organization actively engaged in discussions surrounding innovative financing mechanisms for development projects. Finding new and sustainable ways to fund development is crucial for achieving the ambitious goals outlined by the IsDB and its member states.

The focus on climate change solutions was another key theme at the meetings. The ADFD, a recognized leader in promoting sustainable development practices, undoubtedly contributed to these discussions. The organization’s experience in financing renewable energy projects and climate-resilient infrastructure proved valuable in shaping strategies for a greener future.

The 2024 IsDB Group Annual Meetings served as a valuable platform for strengthening collaboration and charting a course for sustainable development across the Islamic world. The ADFD’s active participation not only reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to global progress but also underscored the organization’s position as a key player in shaping a brighter future for developing nations.
