Ismael Al Baloushi, an environmental inspector working in Ras Al Khaimah has been honoured for rescuing a woman and a young girl from drowning in the sea.

Ohood bint Khalfan Al Roumi, the UAE’s Minister of State for Happiness, and Ahmed Mohammed Ahmed Al Hammadi, director general of Public Works and Services Department in Ras Al Khaimah, led the praise.

They said Al Baloushi’s bravery echoed “the altruistic values of putting one’s self in danger to help others, which is characteristic of UAE society and its principles of cooperation, support and compassion”.

Al Baloushi saved the 5-year-old girl and a woman, who were drowning off the Institute beach of Ras Al Khaimah City, on Saturday April 22, while on duty to curb anti-environment violations.

Al Hammadi said Al Baloushi had “selflessly risked his life” to save them as soon as he heard their distress calls.
