Ride-hailing app Uber has launched a new service in time for the festive season that enables customers to pre-book cars to and from events.
The UberEVENTS service enables customers – from the Gulf and beyond – to schedule rides from 30 minutes to 30 days before they need to travel, Uber announced on Sunday.
UberEVENTS is intended to help people travel to and from office parties or other seasonal events with minimal hassle and without having to wait a long time for a taxi, but the service will be retained after Christmas, the company said.
Customers can also use UberEVENTS to pre-book a car from the airport, with a minimum of 30 minutes’ notice.
And a new ‘Share Status’ facility enables customers to share their travel location and expected time of arrival with friends and others, while in an Uber.
There is also a ‘Lost and Found’ service enabling Uber users to contact their driver directly if they think they left belongings in the car, Uber said.
Uber has also just released its 2016 year-in-review data, which, among other facts, shows that Saturday between 10pm and 11pm is the most popular time for riders to take an Uber in the world.
It also shows that most of Cairo’s Uber users come from the UAE – while the UAE is one of the most popular travel destinations for Cairo’s residents.
