Umm Al Quwain Launches Regional Traffic Safety Campaign

His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, Crown Prince of Umm Al Quwain, attended the opening ceremony for the Unified Gulf Traffic Week activities for 2024. Held at the Al Ittihad Events Hall, the event marked the official launch of a region-wide initiative aimed at promoting road safety and responsible driving habits across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

The Crown Prince commended the efforts of the Ministry of Interior and the Umm Al Quwain Police in prioritizing traffic safety. He highlighted the importance of ongoing traffic campaigns throughout the year, emphasizing their role in reducing accidents and fostering a culture of safe driving practices.

This year’s Unified Gulf Traffic Week campaign carries the slogan “Driving… without a phone.” The focus is on raising awareness about the dangers of distracted driving, particularly the use of mobile phones while behind the wheel. Major General Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmed Al Mualla, Commander-in-Chief of Umm Al Quwain Police, elaborated on the campaign’s theme. He acknowledged the undeniable benefits of mobile technology but stressed the potential threat posed by phones to the safety of drivers and other road users.

Other attendees included officials from various federal and local departments, strategic partners, and officers from the Umm Al Quwain Police General Command.

The launch event served as a platform to showcase the planned activities for the Traffic Week. Attendees were introduced to educational programs, community outreach initiatives, and interactive workshops designed to engage all age groups. These activities aim to equip road users with the knowledge and skills necessary for safe and responsible driving.

The Unified Gulf Traffic Week serves as a significant annual event, fostering collaboration between GCC countries in addressing the shared challenge of road safety. By promoting safe driving practices and highlighting the dangers of distracted driving, the 2024 campaign seeks to create a safer and more responsible driving environment across the region.
