US Moto G5 Plus Release: Amazon Soon Offering Cheap Version With Ads Or More Expensive Ad-Free Model

The Moto G5 Plus has yet to make its way to the United States, but will finally arrive later this month.

The handset made its debut back in February at the Mobile World Congress 2017 and it already launched in some markets, with the United States slated for a spring release.

The Moto G5 Plus makes an enticing proposition, packing good specifications and the latest software – Android 7.0 Nougat, Google Assistant, and more – on a budget. It aims to compete in the affordable segment of the smartphone market and it may just have what it takes to make it.

Moto G5 Plus US Release, Pricing And Options

That U.S. release is now edging closer, as Amazon will start offering the Moto G5 Plus stateside on March 31. Interested customers will be able to get the smartphone for as low as $184.99 if they choose the Prime Exclusive version, but that means putting up with some Amazon ads every now and then. Otherwise, those who prefer the ad-free version of the Moto G5 Plus will have to shell out $229.99.

These prices are for the base models, but higher configurations will cost more. The $184.99 and $184.99 models refer to the Moto G5 Plus with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of native storage space. A higher configuration with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of native storage will go up to $239.99 for the Prime Exclusive version with ads, or $299.99 for the ad-free variant.

Moto G5 Plus Specs

For those unfamiliar with the smartphone, the Moto G5 Plus is a midrange Android handset without any stellar specs and features, as the price itself suggests. The smartphone sports a 5.2-inch AMOLED display with a full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, 2 GB or 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB or 64 GB of storage, and a microSD card support for additional memory.

Other specs highlights include a 12-megapixel main camera with an f/1.7 aperture, a fingerprint reader, a 3,000 mAh battery for all-day use, Android 7.0 Nougat on board out of the box, and 4G LTE on all four major wireless carriers in the United States – AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint and T-Mobile. On the downside, the handset doesn’t have an NFC chip.

“With even faster speeds and the most advanced camera in its class, get everything you need without compromise,” Motorola touts. “With precision craftsmanship and sleek metal design, Moto G⁵ Plus is both beautiful and durable.”

In other words, the Moto G5 Plus comes with some pretty good specs for its low price tag and should offer a more-than-decent experience for its category. It may not compete with high-end flagships, but it doesn’t cost a fortune either so it’s a fairly sweet deal.

In the United States, the Moto G5 Plus will be available in either Gray or Gold color options. For those considering the cheapest options, it’s worth pointing out that Prime Exclusive phones are for U.S. customers who have an Amazon.com account, and some Prime benefits may not be available when traveling abroad.
