Vertiv Launches Comprehensive Liquid Cooling Services to Meet AI Data Center Demands

Vertiv, a global provider of critical digital infrastructure solutions, has announced the worldwide launch of its Liquid Cooling Services portfolio. This initiative aims to support data center operators in enhancing system reliability and efficiency, particularly for artificial intelligence and high-density computing applications.

The newly introduced services encompass a range of solutions designed to manage the complexities of advanced liquid cooling systems. Vertiv’s certified technicians and field engineers offer expert support throughout the lifecycle of these systems, ensuring optimal performance and operational continuity. The services include installation assistance, fluid management, maintenance, and digital monitoring, all tailored to meet the specific needs of modern data centers.

This global rollout follows over a year of successful regional implementations, during which Vertiv refined its practices and gained valuable insights. John Niemann, Senior Vice President of Vertiv’s thermal business unit, emphasized the strategic importance of this expansion, stating, “The AI-focused data center necessitates advanced cooling technologies. Vertiv’s expanded liquid-cooled solutions support the densification of the data center we are seeing as a result of AI.”

The demand for efficient cooling solutions has intensified with the rise of AI and high-performance computing. Traditional air-cooling methods are increasingly inadequate for managing the heat generated by advanced processors. Liquid cooling, leveraging the superior thermal transfer properties of fluids, offers a more effective alternative. It is up to 3,000 times more efficient than air cooling, making it ideal for high-density environments.

Market analyses underscore the growing adoption of liquid cooling technologies. The global data center liquid cooling market, valued at approximately USD 2.6 billion in 2023, is projected to reach USD 9.5 billion by 2030, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 20.3%. This surge is driven by the escalating need for energy-efficient cooling solutions capable of handling the demands of AI and other compute-intensive workloads.

Vertiv’s comprehensive approach addresses the entire spectrum of liquid cooling needs. From initial design and installation to ongoing maintenance and fluid management, the company ensures that data center operators can confidently navigate the complexities of liquid cooling systems. This holistic support is crucial as organizations strive to maintain operational continuity while optimizing performance and efficiency.

The company’s commitment to innovation is further evidenced by its collaboration with industry leaders. Vertiv has partnered with Nvidia to develop reference designs for power and cooling infrastructures that support large-scale AI operations. This partnership highlights the critical role of advanced cooling solutions in sustaining the performance of AI data centers.

In addition to its service offerings, Vertiv has expanded its product portfolio to meet the evolving needs of the market. The introduction of high-capacity coolant distribution units is designed to support AI applications, providing efficient heat rejection and cooling loop fluid systems. These products are integral to managing the increased thermal loads associated with high-density computing environments.

The competitive landscape of the data center cooling industry is also evolving. Schneider Electric’s recent acquisition of Motivair Corp., a U.S.-based company specializing in liquid cooling for high-performance computing, for approximately $850 million, underscores the strategic importance of advanced cooling solutions in the era of AI. This move highlights the industry’s recognition of the critical role that efficient thermal management plays in supporting the next generation of data centers.
