Arab leaders have said they would be ready for a historic reconciliation with Israel in return for its withdrawal from land it occupied during the 1967 war

Speaking at the end of a one-day Arab League summit in Jordan the Secretary General said Arab states would back Palestinian-Israeli peace talks to end the conflict if it guaranteed the creation of a Palestinian state alongside Israel.

The need for political solutions to the conflicts in the region topped the agenda.
