WATCH: Apple Comes Up With New Ads To Showcase The iPhone 7 Plus Portrait Mode

One of the iPhone 7 Plus’ selling points is its dual rear camera that can take magnificent bokeh shots using the Portrait Mode. Now, Apple has posted two new videos on YouTube to highlight the Portrait Mode exclusive to the iPhone 7 Plus.

The 15-second videos show how the Portrait Mode can make a big difference in a photo because of its ability to blur out the background and take better portrait shots.

Today’s ads are a part of a series of videos that aim to promote the Portrait Mode. The first video, titled “Profile Picture” shows how the Portrait Mode can improve a photo to such great lengths that it can be used as a profile picture for a social media site, while the second one is titled “Boyfriend,” which shows how the feature can greatly improve the shot of a loved one.

Apple also released other short videos earlier this month to promote the same feature.

iPhone 7 Portrait Mode

The Portrait Mode was introduced in iOS 10.1. This camera feature creates a shallow depth-of-field effect so that the subject in a photo appears more focused. This is especially useful in portrait photography, resulting in eye-catching photos that one can usually attain only by using a DSLR and a telephoto lens.

The Portrait Mode in the iPhone 7 Plus makes use of the 56mm lens that scans and recognizes people and objects, and separates them from the background before the blurring effect. Aside from the portrait mode, the iPhone 7 Plus’ dual camera lenses also give the phone its 2x optical zoom, which is something rare since other smartphones rely on digital zoom to blow up an image.

Apple Uses Portrait Mode As Flagship’s Main Selling Point

The Cupertino giant is certainly making the Portrait Mode the centerpiece of its iPhone marketing. More recently, the company also used the feature in an ad shown at the start of Brazil’s annual Carnival season.

During Apple’s Q1 2017 conference call back in January, Tim Cook said that the iPhone 7 Plus is enjoying a “higher portion of new product mix than we’ve ever seen with Plus models in the past.” The phone has helped set a new record for the company when it achieved an average selling price (ASP) of $695. This is the highest ASP ever for the iPhone. The popularity of the phone also allowed the company to overtake Samsung as the world’s top smartphone vendor in the last quarter of 2016.
