WATCH: Congressman Compares Trump's America To The Upside Down 'Stranger Things'

Perhaps in an attempt to capture the attention of younger audiences, Rep. David Cicilline, D-R.I., referenced Netflix hit series Stranger Things to describe how America is faring under the Trump administration.

Armed with a sign bearing the words “Trump Things” in the font of the series logo, the congressman brought his point across using interestingly specific Stranger Things references.

Bringing America To The Monster-Filled Dimension

Comparing America to the Upside Down in Stranger Things, Cicilline enumerated the many ways that the Trump administration has brought America to the monster-filled dimension in the hit series.

From secret contacts with Russia to the Muslim ban and questionable executive orders among others, the congressman expressed his sentiments that America is now stuck in the Upside Down.

Cicilline referenced more specific aspects of the show when he stated that Chief Jim Hopper will not be around to rescue us because this is real life.

In the end, the congressman aligned the American people with main characters Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and Eleven, stating the need to remain focused at the task at hand in order to escape this version of the Upside down.

“Mornings might be for coffee and contemplation, but Chief Jim Hopper is not coming to rescue us. This is not a TV show, this is real life,” said Cicilline.

‘Stranger Things’ References

This is not the first time that the Netflix series was used to express grievances about the current administration’s shaky first moves.

When the cast of Stranger Things won the award for Outstanding Performance In a Drama Series at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, the cast members used their acceptance speech to express their dismay as well as encourage many people to fight back. The speech was accepted with enthusiasm and was followed by a standing ovation.

Though some may say that comparing America to a parallel dimension might be a bit extreme, the Rhode Island congressman’s attempt to gain the attention of many people has clearly succeeded.

In the one minute given to the speaker, he was able to bring his point across in the most unique albeit strangest way. It did, however, bring some to think of the congressman’s speech as a great “dad” speech.

Regardless of whether or not you agree with Cicilline’s views on the administration, it’s difficult to deny that he knows how to grab people’s attention with his creative take on current events. Besides, it got us even more excited about Stranger Things Season 2.
