Ever felt lost while shopping in Dubai for your winter holiday? We’ve been there. And here’s everything we’ve learned on where to go for the best deals and prices:
Best for price:
Decathlon: Luckily for those who don’t want to spend a fortune on ski clothes, French brand Decathlon opened a shop in Ibn Battuta last year in addition to its existing one in Mirdif City Centre. But don’t mistake the mid-range prices for bad quality.
On the contrary, the brand is known specifically for its warm and durable ski jackets as well as a large range of bright and light colours for men, women and children.
Sun and Sand Outlet: Find everything you need from base layers to shoes for lower prices at Sun and Sand’s outlet in Al Quoz and The Outlet Mall. It’s a discount heaven. We spent AED99 on discounted snow boots from sports brand The North Face in the Al Quoz branch. So when we say discount, we really mean discount. The store also has a diverse collection of brands to choose from, including Timberland.
Best for durability:
The North Face: Arguably pricey at time, The North Face is one of those brands that you know will not disappoint when it comes to quality. We’ve had fleece jackets from the brand from several years back, and they still look brand new. Their independent stores are located in The Dubai Mall and Mirdif City Centre.
Snow Pro: While it’s definitely on the expensive side, Snow Pro in Ski Dubai has some of the best and most advanced ski clothes and equipment that we’ve seen in Dubai. It has performance brands like Spyder and Burton and even offers luxury ski suits for women (we’re talking fur and leather). So we definitely recommend taking a look.
Timberland: It may have some great quality outdoor clothing, but we’ll always remain bigger fans of Timberland’s shoes. It’s no secret that waterproof winter boots (especially those for snow) are not the easiest on the eyes. But somehow, Timberland manages to offer them in the brightest colours AND most durable material. There’s a saying among Timberland customers that their shoes are shoes you buy for a lifetime.
Best for Après Ski:
Deira fur market: Dubbed the “Russian fur market,” the Deira fur market attracts a large number of Russian tourists who are attracted by low priced merchandise that sells for double the price back home due to high demand. You’re bound to get a good deal on a warm fur coat with a budget as low as AED2,000. We like Planeta Mexa for its large selection and modern style.
Baldinini: Skip the stores in the malls if you can and opt for Italian Baldinini’s shop at The Outlet Mall to get the best deal. Real fur coats with original prices of AED7,000 can go down to AED3,000. The store also has a diverse collection of waterproof shoes that actually look good! Who wants bulky, heavy shoes anyway?
Harvey Nichols: If price is not an issue for you, head to Harvey Nichols in Mall of the Emirates for a large selection of sweaters, coats and jackets. We love this Duvetica red shell coat with a detachable raccoon fur trim. The store is also filled with light cashmere sweaters bound to keep you warm.
