Film screening

Cinema Space presents a screening of the 1990 film Journey of Hope. Presented by the Embassy of Switzerland in the UAE, the Oscar-winning film, directed by Xavier Koller, tells the true story of a Turkish couple, Hayder and Meryem, who, along with their 7-year-old son Mehmet, start their journey of hope from a small village in Turkey to Switzerland. They sell their house and farm to finance the journey to paradise. Their first stop is Izmir, and once they are in Italy, they are taken by smugglers, and sent on towards Switzerland, despite the snow and cold. The film is in Turkish, Swiss German, Italian and German and has English subtitles.

Catch a performance by Ninja Tune artist Sarathy Korwar, Jordanian oud player Kamal Musallam and classically trained cellist Aaron Kim, known as Tacit, as part of The Fridge Concert Series, which promotes local talent.
